Australia’s 2-0 victory over Türkiye in their Group D match of the FIFA World Cup topped Sunday viewing for SBS averaging an amazing 3.035m. The Pre-game coverage had 1.07m and the post game 1.545m. The result sees the game rank third in the list of top 2026 programs so far.

Earlier games coverage that made the top 30 included Scotland defeat of Haiti with 782k, Brazil and Morocco draw that had 915k

Later, in primetime a 7.30pm repeat of the Socceroos victory averaged just 85k.

That compares to episode 3 of Farmer Wants A Wife that had 916k for its first Sunday episode of the season. That was ahead of MasterChef where it was the start of Sweet Week where 712k tuned in, up on last week’s 589k.

Nine had the delayed fourth episode of Shark! that had 523k in four markets, down from last Sunday to a new season low.

On ABC, the second episode of Race Around The World averaged 512k, up on the premiere episode’s 416k. Ground Up that followed saw its second episode miss the top 30.

Later, 60 Minutes had 575k and 7NEWS Spotlight 539k while Watson’s second season premiere on 10 had 236k.

The afternoon AFL included St Kilda’s win over GWS in several markets and Brisbane’s win over Richmond shown in Queensland was impacted by the Wold Cup coverage and had just 331k.

NRL Sunday Footy saw the Tigers come from behind to beat the Titans in a close game that started after the World Cup finished and had 569k.

Seven News with 1.514m was 90k ahead of Nine News at 6pm. At breakfast, Weekend Sunrise topped 400k with Weekend Today on 251k and Weekend Breakfast 157k, seemingly little impacted by the sport on SBS.

Amazing. I was thinking max 2mill. Close to 1.3mill BVOD too, that’s very good. What’s the BVOD record? coz I think people would be watching via SBS on Demand next Sunday at 5am and could be a record - I know that’s what I will probably do

I think the prime time repeat next week probably have a higher ratings as it’s at 5am. I think yesterday’s repeat was too close to the actual live match

BVOD record is just over 1.5m

There’s almost no need for the replay - viewers can go onto SBS On demand or record the program and watch during the day at their convenience.

Three million for Australia v Turkey?! That’s huge. It will be close to a record audience for any program on SBS.

Ground Up bumped from the top 30 based on reach, due to several World Cup entries.

Would have to be up there already as one of SBS and Football Australia’s largest audiences ever, particularly impressive given day time.

My guess in the ratings prediction thread was only 300k off… In the wrong direction. Unreal.

AFL, NRL, IOC, CA, TA will all be quivering in their pants!

Champagne corks popping at Artarmon right about now.

That’s disappointing, I’d have thought and surely SBS too a bare minimum couple of hundred thousand. Perhaps SBS won’t bother doing that again, as that prime time figure was murdered by Seven, Nine, 10 and ABC and dragged down their headline shares. Maybe because it was a weekend and nearly all would’ve been able to watch somehow, so evening replays might do stronger this week with everyone at work and school.

Remarkable. Has to be an OzTAM record. CFTAs would be quite jealous I’d say.

“Hitler: A Life In Pictures” that followed the Socceroos match did well too, averaging 353k (possibly overrun of the Post Match segment?). SBS should have aired something better for that slot.

The primetime repeat of the match was underwhelming.

The other World Cup matches did very well too in their timeslots.

Farmer Wants A Wife got good numbers too for Seven.

  • 9News was the No.1 news bulletin with Total People and all key demographics across the 5 City Metro and in Sydney and Brisbane. The combined national bulletins registered a National Total TV Reach of 2.230 million and a Total TV National Audience of 1.429 million. On 9Now, its BVOD audience of 252,000 was up an impressive 82.6% year-on-year.

  • SHARK! won its timeslot with People 25-54 and People 16-39 in Sydney and Brisbane. It achieved a National Total TV Reach of 1.536 million and a Total TV National Audience of 523,000. *Did not air on Broadcast TV in Perth, these numbers reflect the 4 City Metro Only. On 9Now, SHARK! registered a BVOD audience of 109,000.

  • The broadcast of SHARK! (across the 4 City Metro) claimed a 5 City Metro win with People 16-39 across Total TV.

  • Across the 5 City Metro, 9Network won the 7.00pm timeslot with People 16-39.

  • 60 Minutes secured a National Total TV Reach of 1.184 million and a Total TV National Audience of 575,000. It secured a BVOD audience of 80,000, up 50.9% compared to the same night last year.

  • Sunday Afternoon NRL dominated its timeslot with Total People and all key demos in Sydney and Brisbane. It secured a National Total TV Reach of 1.401 million and a Total TV National Audience of 569,000. On 9Now, it secured a BVOD audience of 121,000 - up 40.7% on the same day last year.

  • Weekend Today was the No.1 breakfast program with People 25 to 54 in Sydney and Brisbane. It achieved a National Total TV Reach of 547,000, a Total TV National Audience of 202,000 and BVOD audience of 39,000, up 30.6% on the same morning last year.

Update -

I’m wondering if there was a mistake with the 7.30pm replay for SBS seeing as the network had a primetime share 1-2 points below 10. In addition to the 7.30pm replay of the Socceroos game, there was also a 11pm replay on SBS Viceland. I think SBS coded them the same and the 85,000 result for the repeat may have been the average of both. Note SBS World News at 7pm had 231,000.

SBS had a full day share of 33.4%
