Nine has a comfortable win with its highest Sunday share in four weeks. Second-placed Seven was even week-on-week, ABC and 10 edged up while SBS is down 2.

Nine’s afternoon helped set-up the night with the NRL Elimination Final delivering 487,000 for the best Sunday afternoon NRL number of the year.

Meanwhile Seven’s 6pm News topped the night with almost 1 million watching, including a Sunday high 408,000 in Melbourne after Nine’s news was delayed by a late finishing NRL. The final number for Nine will be adjusted. It was a different story in Sydney where Nine posted its highest rated bulletin of the year.

At 7pm The Block took over with its second-highest episode of the year. Seven’s late change to its line up didn’t make it to OzTAM in time. We can only guess that the 7News entry for The Journey Begins represents an approximate rating for Farmer Wants A Wife after the series launched to 576,000 the previous Sunday.

The Amazing Race was even with the preceding week while the Spicks and Speck coding is for an ABC special on The Queen.

Entries for 10 News included a rare appearance for the 6pm segment of the bulletin in the top 20.

60 Minutes’ number was up 170k with its coverage of the Queen’s death making the top 20.

Earlier in the day Sunrise was down 30k from the previous week while no daytime royal coverage appeared in the top 20.

Overall, it looks like interest in the rolling coverage of the Queen’s death has peaked with normal programming attracting more interest from viewers.

Even the ABC News Melbourne beat Nine News Melbourne, languishing down to 3rd.

Sport dominated the pay TV ratings, but Paul Murray Live (with Paul and Peta Credlin from outside Buckingham Palace) made the top 20.

Have a look at Seven Melbourne News numbers??

I’ve got no doubt there would be some frustrating phone calls being made out of GTV9 this morning (by news directors) to head office in Sydney. Massive fuck up by Nine in Melbourne again last night.

While the number look very bad, I think they will be adjusted up - as they include the last 9 minutes of NRL.

Still though, absolutely stupid programming decisions by Nine Melbourne for their news this weekend.

There must be some sort of new contractual obligation or agreement between Nine and the NRL to air all finals live on the main channel in Melbourne. It has never happened before, and the ratings are dire. Thankfully there are no more Sunday afternoon games to sabotage the 6pm News ratings (Grand Final aside).

According to TV Tonight: “a number for Farmer Wants a Wife has not been officially provided by OzTAM but Seven advises it will be 575,000”.

I don think there is… but this has caused a lot of damage to the 9 news brand in Melbourne, especially with the massive news events taking place.

From Nine:

  • The Block, 9News and 60 Minutes take the 9Network straight to No.1 for a Sunday win across all key demos and Total People
  • Channel 9 was the No.1 primary channel on Sunday across all key demos and Total People
  • The Block continues to dominate, ranking as Australia’s No.1 program with all key demos
  • The Block wins timeslot across the 5 City and in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide with all key demos and Total People
  • The Block recorded the highest Live BVOD Audience season to date of 95,000, an increase of +43% YoY.
  • Nine takes out the top 3 programs live streamed yesterday, with the Block at #1
  • 60 Minutes was a timeslot winner across the 5 City Metro and in all metro capitals with Total People
  • 9News Sunday was Australia’s No. 1 bulletin and No.2 program of the night across all key demos
  • 9News Sunday was the No.1 program of the night in Sydney and Brisbane
  • NRL Finals Footy: Roosters v Rabbitohs won its timeslot across the 5 City and in Sydney and Brisbane and with all key demos and Total People.
  • Weekend Today was the No.1 breakfast program in Brisbane with Total People.

From 10:

Network 10 (10 + 10 Bold + 10 Peach + 10 Shake):

  • Up 4% week-on-week.
  • Up 17% in 16 to 39s week-on-week.
  • 10: Up 27% in 16 to 39s week-on-week, 11% in under 50s and 12% in 25 to 54s

The Amazing Race Australia:

  • Lifts 15% in 16 to 39s compared with last week’s episode.
  • #2 entertainment show in under 50s, 25 to 54s and 16 to 39s.
  • #2 in its timeslot in under 50s, 25 to 54s and 16 to 39s.
  • Live stream audience up 10% compared with the same episode in 2021.

It’s the last thing Nine News Melbourne needed considering their ratings woes this year.

Was this actually said movie? Or AFLW maybe? Or some royal breaking news?

Nine won the NRL markets with approximately 40% shares while Seven narrowly won the three AFL cities.

I believe AFLW, since only shown in AFL markets, originally scheduled for main channel.

I reckon Nine Melbourne needs to make some BIG changes. It was beaten 250k by Seven last night, around Nine’s normal result. Even the ABC beat Nine, and 10 only 60k behind. The NRL is not helping Nine at all, just making the ratings woes worse.

That is correct. When I turned on the TV just before 6pm for Seven News, Seven Melbourne was showing a repeat episode of Border Security. That means the AFLW clash between Richmond and Hawthorn was airing on 7mate.

In Adelaide, the SANFL Preliminary Final between Adelaide and Norwood aired from 2:30 to 5:30pm on 7mate.

It was a one-off anomaly due to Melburnians tuning in at 6pm, seeing NRL on their screens and switching straight to Seven.

Daytime:
Nine: The Sunday Footy Show (25th) and Sports Sunday (53rd) did well for the 10am-1pm slots.

Seven: King Charles Proclaimed - Day (31st) did well too for it’s long duration. I believe it finished at 5.30pm in Sydney to show Sydney Weekender and in Melbourne to show a Border Security repeat. Not sure about other cities.

Late night:
Seven’s Queen of the World (part 1: 71st; part 2: 128th) did okay for the midnight and 1am slots respectively
