Seven gets the week off to a good start with its highest Sunday share of the year and up five week-on-week. That saw Nine down one, 10 and ABC each down two and SBS steady.

Seven’s success was thanks again to a combination of the ICC cricket final and AFL that was on Seven and 7Mate in various markets. Session 1 of the cricket made the top five while the session coded as Lunch would have included Australia’s victory celebrations that followed the early end to the game. AFL also did well including +200k in Melbourne.

Nine’s night saw 60 Minutes in the 7pm slot doing well with +500k, its biggest audience in 10 weeks. The movie repeat that followed, Bohemian Rhapsody ,brought some good late night numbers.

Third-placed 10 saw MasterChef down 85k from the previous week against the competition, its lowest Sunday of the season.

For ABC, the morning Bluey episode was the top entertainment show of the day. In primetime Designing A Legacy almost made 300k, on par with its recent performance.

Interesting how Channel Ten is very competitive when it goes up against Nine News or Seven News at 5pm.

Of course there are people in here that say noone goes to Ten for News. We know that is clearly not the case because you only have to look at the figures.

Imagine what Ten could do if they invested and promoted more in this area.

Yet, it gets absolutely smashed at 6pm every night when it also goes up against 7 and 9 news. Also, 190,000 is nothing to crow about. The Project 7pm, Insiders and Weekend Sunrise all beat it.

7 News at 5 only aired in 4 markets though (no Perth).

Bluey. The big winner of the day.

60 Minutes at 7pm did well too.

@scott : 10 News’ ratings is always split into two - the 5pm hour and the 6pm portion. The later very rarely makes the top 20.

True.

But Sydney, the most important market, was 61,000 to 45,000

We all know 6pm news is the Goliah.

Before they enter that battle, they need to build the wins around it.

10 News is fairly competitive at 5pm on weekends because it is being compared to national news bulletins on Seven and Nine - so it is national against national. During the week its local version isn’t competitive.

Interesting.

And even more reason why they need to direct resources to make it more competitive.

From Nine

  • 9News Sunday was the news service of choice with Total People and all key demos across the East Coast and in Sydney and Brisbane
  • 9News Sunday recorded a Live BVOD Audience of 51,000
  • 60 Minutes was a timeslot winner with Total People and all key demos in Sydney and Brisbane
  • 60 Minutes recorded a Live BVOD Audience of 38,000
  • Bohemian Rhapsody was a timeslot winner with Total People and all key demos in Perth
  • Bohemian Rhapsody recorded a Live BVOD Audience of 15,000
  • Sunday Afternoon NRL Live dominated afternoon viewing with Total People and all key demos in Sydney and Brisbane
  • Sunday Afternoon NRL Live recorded a Live BVOD Audience of 28,000
  • Weekend TODAY was a timeslot winner with GS + Child in Melbourne

Is that clutching at straws?

haha yeah that is kinda funny.

That’s a peculiar result.

Weekend Sunrise was 80 000 clear of Weekend Today and News Breakfast.

Well news to you Melbourne is actually the biggest tv market in the country.

Yeah you’re probably right

It makes sense they would spend more time indoors watching television because they don’t have the beautiful beaches like the other states

No… just a larger population that provides a bigger TV market to its region.

I feel a bit sorry for people who live in Melbourne because it’s a dreadful place but we’re getting off topic

I would be interested if anyone knows the advertising rate for a 30 second spot in the 6pm News in Sydney versus the same in Melbourne

Your option seems to differ from the masses.

Seeing that Melbourne attracts more eyeballs and a larger viewership for all local bulletins (ABC, Seven, Nine and 10) , Melbourne would be more profitable in this current climate. And its been reported that the southern market has the biggest advertising pull.
