All three reality shows posted week-on-week gains for the first Sunday of the survey period with Married At First Sight again the stand out with 2024 highs for reach, average audience and BVOD. MAFS’s average was up by +200k in average audience from last Sunday. Idol was 15k higher while Survivor was up 25k with its highest reach since launch.

Overall, Nine had a 4 point win, even with last week while Seven was down 1.5 points. ABC was steady with 10 and SBS showing improved shares this week.

Later in the night, 60 Minutes was down +50k but still made the top five while the final of Muster Dogs was up 50k for ABC. Total Control also got a small lift. 10’s Sunday Project lifted by 25k.

At breakfast Sunrise was 120k ahead of Today that slipped behind News Breakfast.

The World Aquatics Championships got a good sampling on 9Gem though a small average audience.

Looks to be about a huge ~500k margin between Married and Idol in metro broadcast, Idol also appears to have been beaten by Muster Dogs in this metric and wouldn’t even be surprised if Idol was neck and neck or even pushed to 4th by Survivor in metro! It may be up YoY, but in metro and especially demographics can’t imagine Seven executives would be over the moon looking at rivals’ results yesterday. And more so Married and Survivor ahead of Idol in key demos.

Seems 9Go! did well with another F&F marathon, to help Nine’s share.

Disappointing result for Nine’s Swimming Championships, albeit not what the event used to be, on m/c 9Gem, not great promotion and against major competition.

  • Married at First Sight soared to its highest reaching episode of the year with a National Total TV Reach of 2.594 million - 677,000 more viewers than its nearest competitor.

  • Married at First Sight also achieved its highest average audience of the series, climbing to a Total TV National Audience of 1.549 million (up 1.8% on the corresponding episode last year and almost double its nearest competitor).

  • Married at First Sight comfortably won its timeslot across Australia, ranking the No. 1 program with Total People and People 24-54 in all metro capitals.

  • Married at First Sight continues to dominate BVOD viewing, last night securing a huge BVOD audience of 327,000 - up a massive 15.8% on the corresponding episode last year.

  • 60 Minutes recorded a Total TV National Audience of 815,000 and easily led its timeslot in all metro capitals.60 Minutes recorded a BVOD audience of 81,000 - up a massive 41.8% year-on-year.

  • 9News was the No. 1 news service with Total People in Australia’s two largest markets of Sydney and Melbourne. In Melbourne, the return of Peter Hitchener to 9News recorded a Total TV Audience of 280,000 - 90,000 viewers ahead of its nearest timeslot competition and up 1.8% on the same day last year.

With results like that - I’d imagine Idol is still one of 7’s higher-rating franchises (I know, there’s no perfect comparison to last year) - I know it is an oversimplified easy answer, but it could work better later in the year?

Not only would 7 clear Idol of competition, but 7 would also give Idol the AFL as a platform to advertise, and 7 could air the live rounds to more of the county actually live (NSW, VIC, QLD, ACT, TAS and even SA & NT if they adjust the local schedule by 30 minutes on Idol nights).

Hell, I am a diehard Survivor fan and that will be my priority this time of year - but if Idol aired at a different time, I’d be inclined to switch on Idol on the occasion.

I think Survivor might be down YoY and certainly compared to other previous seasons in broadcast (though bvod might be steady or up) but still doing really well in key demos, while Aus Idol might be up but maybe thanks to regional and bvod also aided by middle aged or older viewers, but yeah just ‘guestimating’ based on the data we have and the previous data/trends we had/knew and definitely harder to compare to other years with VOZ total tv now, let alone that reach metric

:flushed:

Hitch will do well on weekends. 7 have a huge task on their hands in Melbourne. I reckon they got way too comfortable in 2022/3.

Yep, Seven are now feeling the affects.

Having a local travel show Postcards is also helping Nine. Melbourne Weekender might be beneficial right about now, oh wait they axed that a couple of years ago. :man_shrugging:

3 9NEWS LATE Nine 748,000 402,000

9.30pm news really strong - even stronger in young adult demos.

Seven or Nine should try a 9,30 news on another night as a trial too. See if it is just Sunday thing or 60 Minutes lead in thing.

If I were Seven or Nine I would try 9.30pm news after a strong 8.30 show on a Mon, Tues, Weds or Thurs - and see how it performs.

They absolutely got too comfortable. Hitch will be the new weekend powerhouse.

I’ve been begging 10 for years to do local news at 9.30. This is what would happen.

news at 9.30 also needs no marketing costs. its quite cost effective.

Honestly 9news Melb was soo dominant that I’m not sure how 7 was able to turn a big 2021 defeat into a big win in both 2022 & 2023.

But looks like things are returning to pre 2021 status quo & 7news Melb haven’t been able to keep their lead.

2019 was neck and neck, Seven were winning towards the end and even claimed a win at one point.

COVID aside, GTV News hasn’t really been dominant since HSV’s Jennifer Keyte was still on weekends and Mike Amor in LA, say 2017 and prior, that Simon Pristel run period

Late News works at 9.30.following 60 Minutes. Same when Seven had Spotlight or Code 1 Minute by Minute followed by The Latest.

Weekdays is tricky with reality and some shows the follow (the 100 with Andy Lee, The Front Bar etc).

2019 was close but before that and even after 9news was dominant in weeks won until 2022.

Across the hour:
•In 2018, 9 won 47 weeks (37 in rating)
•In 2019, 9 won 29 weeks (7 won ratings with 22),
•In 2020, 9 won 49 weeks (38 in ratings)
•In 2021, 9 won 35 weeks (24 in ratings)
•In 2022, 7 won 38 weeks (33 in ratings)
•In 2023, 7 won 45 weeks (37 in ratings)

Note that these are broadcast TV numbers. That may sometimes lead to PR releases seeming to differ as to which program won a market if the network is using Total TV numbers that included live BVOD.

Sorry, took a while to get around to these, hopefully it was worth the wait.
