“Miles will be voted in as premier when the state Labor party holds a ballot on Friday.”
Hmm I’m not sure how he’s going to go. He’s smart and not bad as an attack dog but he’s going to need to tone that way down.
If the inevitable happens in 2024 (Ala an election loss), the headlines will certainly write themselves…
Miles seems like a deer in the headlights at the best of times. Dick comes across as more competent by comparison but they’ve both got nothing on Palaszczuk.
ABC News Breakfast VERY late to take this breaking news. At 8:45am they crossed to a reporter to discuss who could be the next premier, 15 minutes after it was announced to be Steven Miles.
Not a mention at all on the show until the 9am bulletin.
Extremely poor from the ABC.
1993 Queensland state cabinet papers were released today.
Moving to a more relevant topic…
There’s a difference between Miles taking a break after virtually working his arse off as soon as he was sworn in to lead disaster management of Cyclone Jasper and all the storms that ravaged Queensland, and that all that’s left is the clean up which is being coordinated from all levels federally and in the state, vs Scomo who ducked off to Hawaii while the nation was burning and had to return home after universal backlash and all he had to offer was ‘I don’t hold a hose mate’ whilst forcing people to shake his hands after they’ve lost their homes in the fires.
Miles didn’t take a break while the disaster’s unfolding, he took it after he set the groundwork for his deputy and others to work on when he’s figured out that everything’s going to plan after a month of disastrous weather. Hardly a fair comparison to Scomo trying to leave everything to the states whilst he enjoys the beaches of Hawaii which was rightfully scorned by all.
No difference at all . I think you’re just looking for an excuse to defend the inexcusable and I won’t read a bunch of essays on here that will just serve pandering disaster of a leader.
Moving on….
Good to see you going on trying to prove how smart you are with a comment like that.
Scomo was a disaster and Miles will end up being a disaster election-wise come October this year with or without his holidays.
As a Victorian, I do enjoy non-Queenslanders commenting on Queensland politics.
I’m loathe to mention the C-Word again, but Covid certainly gave state politicians and state politics a national profile and prominence likely not seen since the early days of Federation.
Even though those days have thankfully passed the increased interest in state politics (especially from interstate observers) seems to have largely remained.
He snuck out and tried to have his office hide it under a veil of secrecy. It was only when someone snapped pictures of him in Hawaii that they had to admit he had left the country. I think that was the bigger issue rather than the fact that he had left the country. Perhaps if he’d been upfront about it it would not have smacked back in his face like that.
Oh, and not throw his wife under the bus in a cozy 60 Minutes interview to make out the whole holiday was her idea.
Excellent initiative from the Queensland government here. Would like to see other states follow suit with similar opportunities when they come up.
I can imagine this will be red meat for anyone running in John Pesuto’s electorate. Hawthorn has strong support for indigenous issues, fast demographic change towards the left, and he only scraped over the line in 2022.
Pesutto is just so piss weak. A so-called ‘moderate’ who just keeps repeating whatever Dutton is barking at him.
Does he not realise that last year’s referendum the majority of his constituents (in Kooyong, where Hawthorn is) actually voted yes contrary to pretty much everywhere else. Good job on riding the tide backwards against your constituents. I’m sure they’ll repay you well with a well-deserved defeat next time with the amount of about turns the Coalition have made.
Though I’d imagine Peter Walsh is probably less concerned given he’s from an area that doesn’t really care about this.
Coincidence?
