Stan, Australia’s unrivalled home of original productions, together with the BBC, today released first look images of the highly anticipated second season of The Tourist, which will see the return of BAFTA and Golden Globe award nominated Jamie Dornan (Belfast, The Fall) and Danielle Macdonald (Unbelievable, Dumplin’). With the first season being one of the biggest global shows of 2022, the six-part thriller, created and written by Jack and Harry Williams, is produced by the award-winning Two Brothers Pictures (Baptiste, The Missing, Fleabag) for BBC, in association with Stan, ZDF and All3Media International.

The images feature Jamie Dornan who resumes his role as Elliot Stanley, a man looking to rediscover his true identity following his memory loss, alongside Danielle Macdonald, as former police officer Helen Chambers, following their adventure in the Australian Outback.

Set against the striking backdrop of Ireland, in season two the pair are confronted by friends and foes as they attempt to uncover the secrets of Elliot’s past. As Elliot and Helen are dragged into a longstanding family feud, the brand new season introduces a raft of new characters including Detective Ruairi Slater (Conor MacNeill, Industry, The Fall), Niamh Cassidy (Olwen Fouéré, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Northman) and the McDonnell family – Donal (Diarmaid Murtagh, Vikings, Outlander), Orla (Nessa Matthews, Fair City), Fergal (Mark McKenna, Sing Street, One of Us is Lying), and Frank (Francis Magee, Kin, Then You Run).

Full of shocking plot twists and the same off-beat comedy that made season one a global success, The Tourist is set to return next year with even more intriguing characters and intense action.

So many of the dramas have a woman as the lead for some reason . Just an observation.

Fair point. I’ve mentioned this before. Seems producers, networks and streaming services are stick in a rut and only trying to appeal to middle aged women.

Scrublands, still in production, reported to air in 2024 seems to be getting a lot of OS interest. It has also been picked up by BBC for BBC Four and BBC iPlayer. It had already been sold to Sundance for North America.

Our troops aren’t safe. Neither are our DMs. After the Australian Minister of Defence (Erik Thomson) texts a ‘secret file’ to the Princess of Behati-Prinsloo, a small island nation, he sends four Australian soldiers (Gurry, O’Toole, England and Younes) into the war-torn country on a secret mission to retrieve the file.

Mistaken for Americans, they are captured by freedom fighters (Bazzi, Jarnson and Nkono) and produce a hostage video that goes viral. When the soldiers reach celebrity status on social media, they realise that being caught might just be the best thing that could’ve happened to them. They’re about to make search history.
