Of note the great Eliud Kipchoge upon finishing outside the top 10 and completing the 6 Star Medal (awarded to those who finish Tokyo, Boston, London, Chicago, Berlin and New York, and there’s a 7 Star Medal for those also running Sydney with an 8th to be added) announced he will be no longer running marathons as a pro.

As for me after missing out on the ballot for Sydney next year (about 1 in 4 got in, only way I reckon I run this again is as a pace runner for a slow group) and being hamstrung in Auckland over the weekend, it’s back to the drawing board having secured a Comrades entry for next year. Reckon there’s 4 chances to sneak into a qualifier should work commitments and finances allow.

Have they changed the process now its part of this great marathon group? I guy I work with had his application rejected, but he hadn’t previously run the event so he wasnt that surprised.

ESPN probably disappointed.

Why?

The reason is during Frozen Frenzy, the Capitals game was shown on a split-screen the whole time Hurricanes-Flyers played overtime.

Just in anticipation of that 900th goal.

After overtime the Capitals game went out in full screen, and there was still never a goal scored from Ovechkin or any one of its players.

TLDR: The goal didn’t happen under national spotlight.

Except the game was nationally broadcast on TNT.

Ballot has been in for this and 6 of the 7 majors for as long as I can recall (Boston being the exception, they use qualifying times) with backdoor ways in via charities and travel packages and Sydney specifically for a couple of years. I’ve even entered the Chicago ballot for next year given Melbourne (not a major) is also going down the ballot path for both half and full races next year.
