Huge for the market in Australia with the MCG hosting the NFL next October after the Grand Final

Destination NSW will be miffed given they were also in negotiations for NFL at Accor.

One of the downsides of the MCG in this instance is the oval shape won’t suit the game as much as other grounds.

Maybe EDP445 will come down for the game. We can all give him cupcakes, he’s an Eagles fan.

The milestone comes amidst a flurry of competition in world-class qualifying events, as Australian Team hopefuls strive to secure their opportunity to represent the country on the world’s biggest sporting stage.

An expected Australian Team of 50 athletes will face off with 2900 athletes from more than 90 nations from 6 – 22 February 2026, with the Games hosting 116 medal events across 16 sports.

NFL executive vice president Peter O’Reilly said at Thursday morning’s (AEDT) announcement that their first regular-season game in the Asia-Pacific region will probably be in week one of their season, which is early September.

O’Reilly and Victorian sports minister Steven Dimopolous said the AFL was a key player in bringing the NFL to Melbourne.

“I have nothing but respect for the AFL’s work with us in order to land the announcement today,” Dimopolous said.

“This doesn’t happen without the AFL’s partnership as an important player in this conversation … that relationship can go beyond just playing (at the MCG),” O’Reilly said.

If you’re in Sydney, get to the FIH Pro League.

This was massive news today. Jacqui Felgate on 3AW radio dedicated a large portion of her program to it as well, many callers and not one wasn’t overly positive.

I reckon it’ll be a sell out and NFL continues to grow, Monday’s Super Bowl performance will also be of interest once again.

I think we forget or don’t truly realise it’s popularity here and potential, especially that younger 18-49 age group.
