The Victoria Racing Club has slashed jobs as it begins to tackle its dire financial situation.
It is thought close to 40 positions have been made redundant as new VRC chief executive Kylie Rogers (the former AFL executive and customer and commercial manager) begins a restructure.
Job losses had been forecast for weeks but they hit home on Tuesday.

Teen freak Gout Gout has stunned the world by winning the Australian All Schools Athletics Championships 200m final with a record time faster than a young Usain Bolt.
The 16-year-old left the Queensland meet speechless with his remarkable 20.04 run in the final - making him the second fastest in global history for an athlete under the age of 18.
Gout’s incredible result makes him the fastest in Australian history, as the world watched Peter Norman’s 56-year record fall.

Well my time running in Singapore turned out to be a grind, where blisters prevented me from running basically the last 11km and blowing out my time to be my slowest finish ever…but emphasis on the word finish unlike 2019. Perhaps I should have tried Valencia where for the first time an Aussie ran sub 2:06 and we had a top 10 finisher in the women’s race…

The parents of Gout Gout had an exclusive interview with 7News Brisbane today. They said that their son’s name is actually Guot Guot. The misspelling was done when it was first translated from Arabic to English when the family flee South Sudan.

Racing Minister Winston Peters has announced the Government’s plans to end greyhound racing in New Zealand.
“This is not a decision that is taken lightly but is ultimately driven by protecting the welfare of racing dogs,” the Minister said in an announcement at the Beehive on Tuesday afternoon.
The three-time racing minister and supporter of the racing industry has been considering the future of greyhound racing since early this year.

For the second year in a row, LawConnect had claimed line honours in the Rolex Sydney Hobart yacht race. It crossed the finish line at 2.35am Hobart time, in the time of 01 day 13 hours 35 minutes 13 seconds. Celestial V70 was second and Wild Thing 100 third. Celestial V70 is the current leader in overall handicap.
I’m surprised that the Stuff poll is as high in support as it is (even though I voted yes). Oh well, kinda sad in a way, but every dog has it’s day I suppose.
Sam Haynes — Commodore of race organiser, the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia — sailed Celestial V70 to second over the line at this year’s Sydney to Hobart race line on Saturday, with the yacht later named provisional overall winner.
The Perth Cup race will be run at 5.50pm Perth time (8.50pm AEDT), with the meeting reduced from nine to seven races.

Olympic gold medallist and multiple majors winner Lydia Ko has been made a Dame in New Zealand’s New Year Honours list.
Celestial V70 was today declared the official overall winner of the 2024 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht race.
A memorial service was also held at Hobart’s Constitution Dock to remember the two sailors killed during the race.
