The Queensland government has been criticised over proposed Olympic laws which could prevent documents relating to 2032 Games from ever being publicly released.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk tabled laws in parliament to set up the organising committee for the Olympic Games (OCOG) on Wednesday.
However, the laws shield organising committee emails and documents which are “of a confidential nature that was communicated in confidence” from Right to Information applications.
Liberal National Party integrity spokeswoman Fiona Simpson says that broad definition could prevent all Olympic and Paralympics documents from being released.
That sounds like a standard IOC requirement
what a position to hold!
Archer Capital has confirmed that it has reached an agreement to sell its majority shareholding in Supercars to Racing Australia Consolidated Enterprises Ltd (RACE).
RACE is a consortium led by Melbourne entrepreneur and CEO of QMS Sport, Barclay Nettlefold, together with the Australian Racing Group and Henslow.
Transition of the shareholding will be completed by the end of the year, with RACE starting to engage in planning for 2022 with Archer and management.
If anything the race may even be in a 2-year rotation with say Singapore (who have had to re-negotiate a contract themselves, and in a similar way to how the German GP was alternating for years between Hockenheim and Nurburgring) if F1 want to add more races in other locations on top of Miami and Qatar being in for next year.
The AGPC have said they don’t want to be on alternating years - will be interesting to see what happens especially if a biennial event is the only option on the table
Kiwi mare Verry Elleegant has won the 2021 Melbourne Cup, her 10th Group 1 victory.
UPDATE 2:
Tralee Rose finished 10th in Melbourne Cup.
I can see when the going got tough, the tough didn’t get going. Ocean Billy finished last.
Shane van Gisbergen is the 2021 Supercars champion after heavy rain in Sydney washed out Race 30 this afternoon. The final race is Bathurst 1000 on December 5.
lol.
Not gonna move (don’t quote me if I’m wrong).
NSW appear to be keen (and motivated) to try and attract the event, whether it comes to anything time will tell. Would be nice to see a little more detail about what NSW are going to offer by way of a venue
I think its more likely that Australia would lose the event rather than it move (but that said, AGPC did say they weren’t interested in a year on year off arrangement, so NSW may try to swoop to pick it up)
What a win. Chaz Mostert from Holden has won the Bathurst 1000 race. This was a great race.
Wasn’t sure where to post this, but The Daily Telegraph are reporting that Australian governments are secretly hatching plans for more sporting events in Australia, one of the more major ones being the Federal government speaking to states interested in preparing a bid to host the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Australia.
Federal Sports Minister Richard Colbeck warns that if the Commonwealth Games don’t return to Australia in 2026, then we’ll have to wait until 2038.
I don’t think we need the Commonwealth Games again so soon.
I’m happy to wait until 2038, I think it’s overrated anyway.
Long shot to expect the Comm Games to be around in 2038
I wouldn’t miss it either.
What state? I love the Comm games so really hoping they are back down under soon!
2026 is too soon, it means Australia will have hosted three Commonwealth Games within the space of 20 years.
If Australia is really keen to bid though, which cities will show interest? Adelaide aborted its bid last year because it was deemed too expensive.
