A couple more short videos uploaded to the Tennis Rewind YT channel, regularly has old Channel 7 Aus Open tapes.
2005 and 2006, including a rare Olympic rings fade into 7Sport watermark for Torino Winter Olympics. Audio is hosts Johanna Griggs, Sandy Roberts and Bruce McAvaney. Telecast sponsors included Nivea and Medibank:
Howie would’ve made a better presenter for 10 during 2019-2023 Cup Carnival coverage rather than Eddie and, standby for the (Eventual) beginning of one of the greatest 21st Century Melbourne Cup Moments. You will also notice Seven had used a handful of network personalities and racing experts mixed around every year during the 17 years of exclusive TV rights and coverage during that period was definitely 2nd best after that from 10 during most of the 1990s well into 2001.
Short Video of the beginning of Seven’s second ever coverage of the Melbourne Cup Carnival during 2003. At the 21:18 mark of the video, you will notice Bruce farewelling NSW, ACT and QLD Viewers and advising those viewers that the final two races of VRC Derby Day 2003 would still be replayed during the Coverage of a Rugby World Cup Match. Now we all know a similar thing happened on 10 two years prior when the finales of Derby Day and Melbourne Cup Day were shown live during the 5pm News for viewers in NSW, ACT and VIC with Oaks Day Finale only for VIC Viewers.
Some more great uploads from Paul Lang’s amazing Youtube Channel. Here we see Partial Coverage of Seven’s second ever exclusive coverage of the Melbourne Cup Carnival during 2003. Despite the wonderful debut official coverage from Nine 21 years later, at the 8:10 mark of this video you would notice someone who, along with Simon O’Donnell would’ve worked well with Eddie for 2024-2029 TV Rights Package. Mind you Simon O’Donnell did feature on the final few years of Seven’s exclusive Coverage (Until 2018).
Now returning to the topic about the old Whitman Chocolate Blimps, having seen a few late 1990s vids on YT, did Nine ever use it for Cricket and Australian F1 Race as well as the NSW Autumn Racing Carnival other than NRL and did 10 use it for events other than the Melbourne Cup Carnival such as V8 Supercars and Sydney to Hobart Race? Seven used it for Australian Tennis Open and AFL and maybe Rugby Union?
Peter Donegan full presenting role of the Melbourne Cup Carnival Finale of 2003 on Seven? I thought he only did something similar on 10 during the 1990s up until 2001. You’d like to think Bruce was broadcasting the Rugby World Cup that evening.
Docklands had the NZ SA quarterfinal that afternoon, and Bruce was hosting both that match and the Wallabies one from Docklands. Bray, Handy and Eales were in Brisbane to call the Wallabies.
David Fordham was at Docklands with Bruce, and Podo was there too, but can’t remember if they had a 3rd voice or if it was just Fordham/Podo. EDIT: now that i see the video, it was Greg Martin, not Eales with Bray and Handy in Brisbane, Tim Horan was part of the team too.
