Southern Cross Austereo (Regional)

SCA continue to cut and slash local and then cry that revenue is down

I didn’t see a media release linked to the article?

Absolutely they are taking the piss and making a mockery of the intent of the local content rules. They are abusing their market position. The ACMA should release new commercial licences in every large regional market without a local SCA breakfast show

They won’t do that - remember, ACMA are the industry’s little bitch.

What needs to happen is a new government that isn’t Labor, Coalition, Greens or PHON, and with that, an all out, no holds barred, take no prisoners federal inquiry/royal commission into the adequacy (or inadequacy) of regional media operations in this country.

Yes I realise it’ll never happen with the ACMA. They are the world’s best example of a regulator that has been captured by the industry they’re supposed to regulate. They even put the banking regulators to shame.

Sadly, the latter can be true even when cuts are made and good people lose their jobs.

Correct, Hit Newcastle local till 3pm. Loues doesn’t broadcast there

I really feel for the Hit Newcastle breakfast team. It’s not their fault, but my goodness they have taken a LOT of regional radio jobs from others. I hope nobody is taking it out on them personally.

Same goes with the three ‘promotions’ we saw in yesterday’s news. Talk about poor timing!

I see they wasted no time in making up new roles for those in management.

The NSWDoE playbook.

We can’t fund vital services but we can create more management roles for our mates and those who toe the compay line.

I’m curious to know if all the ‘survivors’ of these redundancies receive a pay rise?

All three affected breakfast shows finished up this morning.

I feel sorry for Christie Hayes, who only returned to the airwaves last month after taking maternity leave (she gave birth to a girl in November last year). I wonder if she will move back to the mainland to seek more job opportunities.

Terrible news, all terrific operator’s. So who is left in WA

1 hit announcer? And local daytimes on triple M? 2 content directors? Any word on the sale?

Hobart, Newcastle and GC, still local from 9-3? Regional vic and nsw from Albury?

I remember the obs on the hit side were a cash cow for the network, how does this work now?

I wonder what it means for Christie Hayes as her husband is on Triple M IIRC?

They don’t do it.

These cuts have been an annual occurrence since covid, when you think they can’t cut anymore they still do. No wonder listeners are leaving in droves.

Hot Tomato breakfast co-host Emily Jade O’Keeffe spoke on the show on Wednesday about Bronte and Lakey being made redundant.

I won’t comment on them “taking jobs” but having listened to them twice at work this week they do make me want to go back to bed (not an option for a job starting at 5AM for me unfortunately).
