I’m guessing new Hit CQ announcer George Sargent would be the new local mornings announcer, can’t see them doing local afternoons as well.
Sean Brown will move from Hobart’s Hit 100.9 to Newcastle’s Hit 106.9 in the newly created role of Mornings Announcer and Operations Assistant.
Daily Telegraph reporting Triple M regional stations are dropping Ray Hadley.
Radio king Ray Hadley is set to shed tens of thousands of listeners after Southern Cross Austereo announced it was dropping his program from some regional markets.
It comes months after SCA launched a digital breakfast show with former 2GB host Steve Price.
Will reduce Hadley’s footprint in regional NSW to a handful of markets: Goulburn (2GN), Hay (2Hay FM), Lithgow (2LT) and the Snowy Mountains (XLFM).
Don’t celebrate just yet, because according to Radioinfo:
It is strongly tipped that Hadley will be replaced by Steve Price.
If they’re looking to cut costs, just go with music and forget about Steve Price. Or go local!
It will be interesting how it work… It will be a 9am show?
or will Steve start at 7am and finish at 12pm? Australia today will only be on 7am to 9am, the network will join at 9am.
I agree rather than Hadley or Price better off live and local.
We could see that coming…
They already pay Steve Price’s salary for Australia Today on Listnr (and DAB+). Would be cheaper to take Price’s show 9am-midday rather than pay music royalties for six stations x three hours.
Sad but true.
To be honest, I’m actually surprised that Ray Hadley on Triple M Regional stations (and even then, only some of them) lasted this long. Think it was about eight or nine years ago that SCA dropped The Continuous Call Team from the then-Greatest Hits/Widest Variety regional stations in favour of relaying Triple M NRL coverage.
As for Hadley being replaced by Australia Today, predictable yet uninspiring. Could imagine Steve Price eventually getting a run on all (or at least most) Triple M metro & regional stations too.
I can’t.
Personally I don’t think Australia Today with Steve Price would work on a Triple M station like 104.9 Sydney at all.
But knowing how SCA loves their networked content and a level of talkback (remembering that overnight stuff) on Triple M, it’s not a possibility I’d completely rule out from ever happening either.
I think replacing Hadley with Price is a positive move for the regionals. At least the audio quality will be closer to fm sound and the content will not seem as Sydney centric.
Yeah I cannot see triple m Sydney broadcasting Steven Price, or 2day fm changing formats. I think 2day fm would be worth the experiment being classic hits station with some talk. Bit like a 2LT. But as what others have posted SCA wants a younger format in Sydney and radical format changes won’t work as it would stuff up the hit network .
Totally agree, Price’s show is made especially for the regionals, couldn’t see it being aired in full for the metro’s except for some short segments like “thought of the day” around the news updates etc. What I could see though is that the show might be expanded out to some of those regional markets like MtGambier, Mildura, Toowoomba etc as opposed to the networked music shift with Guy.
Yeah it will remain on DAB radio. Left field if they do a deal with SEN 1170 maybe it could get an airing there. He does talk a bit of sport on his show.
I can’t read the Telegraph behind the paywall but Mr Price appears to be taking over from Ray as what was predicted.
From July 1.
Price told The Daily Telegraph he is excited about the prospect of interacting with the regions.
“I’ve been doing national radio shows since the early 2000s. I took over from Alan Jones, and before that John Laws. This is what I was doing on 2GB in 2019. I love talking to rural communities and with the program’s national footprint we will be able to speak to people in Coffs, Griffith, Orange about their issues,” he said.
According to Radioinfo, Australia Today with Steve Price will be heard on Triple M in Coffs Harbour, Griffith, Orange, Port Macquarie, Wagga, Dubbo, Mt Gambier, Toowoomba & Maryborough at 9-11am weekdays.
He will also be joined by Natarsha Belling (former 10 News First presenter), who was born & raised in country NSW.
