Ummm? What!

Lol yeah exactly. What indeed. Can’t even keep a local callsign, so no.

Do we think they’ll rebrand as they’re audio only now? Maybe entirely to Listnr? Or back to just Austereo? A much better name and cuts ties to TV.

Bit of a mouthful the ol’ “Southern Cross Austereo”. I think they will look at simplification but as to if they look to heritage or a newer name like Listnr to really broaden the digital scope, I guess we will find out.

Weren’t they considering that at some stage? Even before the TV assets were sold?

That’s right. They were going to call themselves that instead of any permeation of Southern Cross Austereo or Southern Cross or Austereo or SCA…

I wonder if the name goes with the stations to ADH? They could call their FTA division Southern Cross.

Several licensee/holding companys which almost certainly have to transfer to ADH to avoid falling foul of the control laws regarding owning multiple licences in a single market have Southern Cross in the name. They could be changed, but these areas are really the parts of SCA with any remaining like to the Southern Cross name.

The possible future name change from SCA to LiSTNR has been flagged before, so this could be a good time to implement that change - it’s certainly more relevant to their business now.

and changing to LiSTNR would be a good choice, and a symbolic one at that to reinforce their focus - it would be reminiscent when ClearChannel changed their name to iHeartMedia

I reckon just use Austereo. Listnr just sounds a complete and utter wank. Works for apps, not as a publicly listed company.

Agreed, it’s a great iconic name and encompasses the entire company.

And people know it.

I agree. Listnr does sound like a wank tbh.

Agree about Listnr being a wank. Austereo should be the brand.

Plus the fact they have to spell out Listnr everytime shows how bad of a name it is.

Southern Cross Audio Networks?

but why keep Southern Cross, but not Austereo branding-wise?

Austereo’s branding would not really suit as a corporate brand IMO. Southern Cross will still exist despite the curve up of their TV arm, and I just feel that any “new brand” would need to centre itself within a purely audio-centric focus, which I feel this brand suggestion would be able to provide an opportunity to do. The company would also gain a rather versatile acronym in the form of S.C.A.N., as in “Scan,” to utilize not only to promote their broader asset base but unify it as well.

Worked pretty well up to 2011.

Southern Cross is a defunct TV brand that is almost entirely meaningless (bar for a few local sales reps in regional markets, perhaps) - you would either go back to the heritage of Austereo, or look forwards and back in with LiSTNR.

Or, better yet, don’t spend money you don’t have on a rebrand after culling 100+ staff.

Austereo is one of the best radio network brands this country has ever seen. A great name. And for an app too (if they ever used this).

I too agree Austereo is a better name than LiSTNR.

now im thinking, would it have been recieved well if the app was called Austereo?

because yeah, hearing LiSTNR being spelt out on every ad is a bit annoying lol
