Media Watch tonight had a segment on misinformation on social media.
That was a very fascinating segment on Misinformation. Also about that over 60s driving ban post, why on Earth would they use a picture of Albanese as well as American Banknotes in the background? Besides, driving rules are a state responsibility and there are no laws on banning over 60s from driving at 1am or something.
So we canât have kids watching Youtube videos or playing Lego games, but QAnon, actual Hitler-loving Nazis and CSAM is a-ok?
How many times do we have to correct this misinformation? Kids will not be prevented from watching YouTube videos. They just wonât be allowed to create an account for the social aspect like comments and creating content.
The only thing that has changed with YouTube is you need a account to watch content that they class as 18+ so they will be blocked from watching most content (on YT) but yes, they could probably just get on there with there parents accountâŠ..
At SXSW Sydneyâs âHandle With Care: What If Kids Designed the Internet?â, digital rights advocates, regulators and youth voices came together to imagine a future where children arenât locked out of the online world but invited to help reshape it.
Users of teen accounts will be restricted to seeing content that contains the level of nudity, sexual expression, profanity, drug use, violence and other adult-oriented themes that they they would expect to see in a PG-13 movie.
Has anyone noticed Facebook and Instagram have been really glitchy the past few weeks?
For example; I was writing a post on FB and the typing inductor just kept jumping around⊠It sent me back three words while i was half way writing another! Also not to mention the hideous new design layout for the commentsâŠ
And whenever i get adverts on Instagram Stories, i click to skip to the next story and it automatically opens the link to the advertisement which has a CTA Button at the bottom, but i tap nowhere near it⊠Also the new update moved the DMs onto the bottom bar and now you can swipe to get between them which is more of a hindrance than anything.
And the horrible customer support (or lack there ofâŠ), if i didnât have a social media addiction/use them for work, iâd boycott!
News Corp reports that Apple and Google have pulled OmeTV from their app stores, after Australiaâs eSafety Commission warned the chat app was being used by predators to target children.
eSafety Commission first issued the formal warning on OmeTV back in August this year.
Donât know if this has been posted already, if so I apologise, butâŠ
âScrambling over the detailsâ: Opposition slams lack of clarity around u-16 social media ban
The shadow minister for communications (Melissa McIntosh) has slammed the Albanese government for being ill-prepared for the under-16 social media ban, set to take effect in less than a month.
âIt is extraordinary that a year on from the social media age minimum being legislated, the Albanese Labor Government is still scrambling over the details of the under-16 social media ban that begins on 10 December,â McIntosh said.
âThere are still several things the government has not been clear about with the Australian people, including whether a platform can compel Australians to use digital identification for age verification, and even which platforms are going to be included.â
Australiaâs world-first ban on social media for under-16s is facing a major legal threat, with NSW Libertarian MP John Ruddick announcing he will take the government to the High Court just weeks before the reform comes into force.
Ruddick, who will file âimminentlyâ through the Digital Freedom Project he leads, argues the law violates the nationâs âimplied constitutional freedom of political communicationâ.
