EDIT:
News Corp has also been leading a separate campaign called Let Them Be Kids calling for the minimum age for social media to be raised.
I am a bit worried we will end up like Brazil where the government will end up banning X, if the Misinformation and Disinformation Bill is passed.
Brazilâs ban on private citizens use of X/Twitter is overreach, and I would not like something like that bought in here.
I do believe though that all levels of government (and government MPs) should withdraw their presence on X and not use it as a form of engagement or for information dissemination. Doing so gives X unwarranted âlegitimacyâ as an information source when a lot of the other stuff on there is grade A bullcrap and under Elonâs rule this gets left unchallenged.
Iâm more tolerant of Facebook as (despite itâs massive flaws) they do at least make more of an effort against this sort of thing and are somewhat more willing to cooperate with governments.
Instagram will introduce âteen accountsâ for people under 18, limiting what they can view and who can contact them.
Meta said the switch will happen immediately for any new users and within 60 days for existing users.
Twitter/X is changing how the Block feature works.

And as a result:
X alternative Bluesky announced on Thursday that it had gained half a million new users in the 24 hours since X made the formal announcement about the change.
âwelcome to the 100k+ people who have joined Bluesky in the last 12 hours!!!â the official Bluesky account on Bluesky announced just after 2am on Oct. 17.
Bluesky then followed up with an update close to the 24 hour mark.
âupdate: half a million new people in the last day,â the official Bluesky account posted.
Reported the equivalent of 23,809,523 times all of the money that exists on Earth
This is so ridiculous. Oh wait it says Russia finesâŚ
Social media users under the age of 16 are set to be barred from using social media, under legislation expected to be introduced to parliament this month.
The proposed legislation wonât include exemptions for young people who already have social media accounts or those with parental consent.
If the legislation passes Federal Parliament, one of the social media accounts affected will be Her Way, set up by 14-year-old journalist Abbie but run by her parents. It gives daily updates on womenâs sports at home and abroad.
(You may have seen Abbie doing media interviews and appearing in panel discussions in Sydney, during last yearâs FIFA Womenâs World Cup)
I think that this one will be ok
