I like that Karen Prater has been filling in for numerous presenters over the last few months. I’ve been listening to her ever since she presented a show on mix106.3 in Canberra in the mid to late 90s.
Sometimes she sounds like a voice over artist but that is her day job. She even did producing for the Cam Daddo show I would not have thought that show would need a producer. I wonder why she is on so often? Maybe all the presenters are working less hours due to Covid.

Cam doesn’t have a radio background is mainly used for his voice/connection to listeners. With virtually all of the non-core announcers not being radio people smooth requires a lot of production for what would usually be tasks done by the jocks. Things like working out when to have breaks, talk content, anything technical, recording and uploading the voice tracks.
She’s basically the only fill in person. She’s also based in regional Vic so already has an excellent setup to work remotely (as she has done for at least 99% of her smooth work)

I’ve started listening to the Perth Smooth app (mostly to bypass the constant Smooth Sounds and Robbie Williams competitions) and it’s funny now to hear Mike Perso presenting throughout the day.

There is a fine line between creating a smooth 80s that’s engaging and fun and it being a total bore.
They should rename it “smooth - overplayed songs that are played again”

I listen to the main Sydney stream when I am working from home as I have a Bluetooth speaker. What I really dislike and Smooth isn’t the only station that does this they play an external ad when you first start the stream which if you a listening to get the news on the hour you can miss the start of the news because of the ad. Also if the stream drops out they play another ad when the stream starts again. They commonly have a system that inserts stream specific ads when the main station has ads as I was getting ads from an American loan company’s that don’t even operate in Australia as I was using getflix.
Just leave it to those ads that the station normally has and stop being greedy. It just annoys your listeners as they are annoyed they won’t be paying attention to the brand being advertised during these ads so it can’t be very effective. Also Smooth need to reduce the duration of the ad breaks in general sometimes they are over 5 minutes long. That does nothing for either the advertiser or listener.

Yeah sometimes it seems that way although I know at least one other poster on here who listened all the time.
I think people generally just don’t bother complaining, because they know it’s pointless.
Anyway I sent them another email aaking why they hadn’t responded
