True enough. There’s plenty of tracks where, although the caller can be heard over the loudspeakers, you can’t actually hear a word they’re saying over the noise of the horses going past or the cable lure at the dog tracks.
I guess they’re going to be more freelancers calling the races. A bit like how they have freelancers call local AFL, League, Rugby and Football matches on their respective platforms.
Sky Racing 1 & 2 both in HD now. Picture looks much nicer although some of the foreign feeds are still a bit less than optimal.
According to a post in the Foxtel thread Foxtel - #4274 by ADstv it changed over yesterday which seems right as both were still SD on Wednesday when I checked.
Seems like some people are getting HD and others aren’t.
Won’t the callers most likely be worker for the state racing bodies anyway? Alot of the states have their own set up now, so maybe Sky/Tab will just take the feeds from there? Depending on what and where it is.
As I understand it from conversations I’ve had with race callers and people who know race callers, they’re usually employed by the media (Sky and RSN predominantly). But yes I agree we could see a move towards them being employed by racing organisations and Sky just taking those feeds.
I believe all Australian races are HD, but the internationals are a bit of a mixed bag
Does Sky Racing or Racing.com air Sky Sports Racing UK content?
I have only ever seen the racing from Sky uk racing however racing.com on big uk racing days does show the whole Itv coverage.
Racing does ITV coverage for big UK races like Guineas
Sky Racing sources UK race broadcasts from Racing TV (formerly Racing UK). Racing TV functions similarly to RDC in that it is an industry-backed broadcaster funded by corporate bookmakers.
RDC (along with TVN) has traditionally relied on the UK’s free-to-air (FTA) host broadcasters for coverage. TVN previously used BBC and early Channel 4 Racing broadcasts, while RDC has taken feeds from ITV Racing.
So none from Sky Sports?
No
Daffy is retiring after 52 years in the bookmaking business, according to The Sunday Telegraph’s Phil Rothfield. Daffy worked at his first meeting in country Victoria when he was 16, before creating Centrebet with his great mate, the late Terry Lillis, a bookmaker, and developer, in January 1993.
High definition deal: Sky Racing, Foxtel renew partnership
For the first time, all three Sky Racing channels will be broadcast in high definition into Australian homes as part of the racing broadcaster’s renewed deal with Foxtel Group.
Under the new deal, Sky Racing – which broadcasts more than 150,000 races live annually across Australia and into more than 60 countries internationally – will continue to be featured on Foxtel, Foxtel Go and Foxtel Now.
Sky Racing 1 and Sky Racing 2 will join Sky Thoroughbred Central in being available in high definition (HD) for all Foxtel Residential subscribers.
No mention of Kayo Sports
This is interesting too:
In another first, Foxtel Business customers (excluding licensed venues) will also have access to all three Sky Racing channels to broadcast at their venues.
So Hospitals, Airports, Hotels/Motels etc?
Airports and hotels/motels probably, hospitals no.
