RWWA has launched Racing WA, a new live stream channel for all WA thoroughbred meetings, including country meets not shown on Sky. Not a bad effort with tote dividencs worked in and extended race caller commentary after each race. They also fill the time between races with other RWWA productions and commercials.
Available on 7+ and in full HD via racingwa.com.au
It seems like quite a bit of effort has gone into this channel. Todayâs Kalgoorlie meeting is dual hosted and Iâve counted 6 cameras. Not bad for a country meeting on a relatively unknown live stream. I wonder if they plan to add harness and greyhounds, too?
Jo McKinnonâs post online about the passing of Graham McNeice, includes former long-time TABCorp TV boss (and TAB AFL wagering preseter for 7AFL) Adam Hamilton and veteran racing/sports journalist/presenter Michael Felgate.
Also comments from former industry names Ben Damon (of ATN-7 and later Foxtel) and Ryan Phelan (Ten and later Seven).
Likewise the schedule on Skyâs own website lists Flemington races on Sky1 only. Iâm a little disappointed itâs not on Thoroughbred Central but maybe the contract with NSW Racing doesnât allow it? And RDC doing their own Flemington coverage fills that space for me anyway.
Correction: Channel 529 didnât show Flemington today and wonât for the remainder of the Spring Carnival. Channel 526 (Sky1) had full coverage of the entire meeting, and only permitted RDC to take the broadcast through channels 68/78 and the RDC app. It wasnât streamable on Kayo or 7+ either.
Yes and no. I believe this is actually the second time; the first was during Sevenâs tenure when the former TVN were prevented from broadcasting the Melbourne Cup call live but was allowed access to the vision 30 minutes after it had concluded on Seven (happy to be corrected if Iâm wrong).
The Tabcorp/Nine deal is different in that it allows RDC to broadcast on platforms where they donât directly âcompeteâ with Sky or Nine platforms. I also suspect the 68/78 feeds maintain access for two reasons:
The VRC partly owns RDC and wants to maintain an âalternateâ industry coverage on free-to-air.
Although RDC is still considered a Seven multichannel, it is no longer financially backed by Seven West.
Has Sky Racing rebranded anything? Their international variant has a new logo and look. It was branded fairly generically as Australian Racing now itâs Sky Racing World.
