No it’s not. He’s pathetic. He’s not doing because of the reasons you say. He’s doing to mock and deride the national broadcaster for ideological reasons.

For his conservative, old-aged audience.

Who are probably not dissimilar to the ones Hamish Macdonald admires in his tweet.

The “consetvatives” Murray and his ilk court probably aren’t old aged but more your disenfranchised blue collar workers, fundamentalist Christian types and young Libs / IPA dogmatic types.

Helps that Foxtel’s usual #1 channels suddenly have no content to broadcast!

They only talk in reach and not average viewers. Still small in comparison to all other news services in this country.

@cmo context.

They only reach 30% of homes.

In their universe they are at an all time historic high.

That is certainly not the case for ABC, 7, 9 or 10.

Why did my post get deleted again? I didn’t post the article just some of the stats. That is allowed no?

One of the reason would be that the agreement with OzTAM is to only post the average ratings for programs as listed in the Top 20 STV shows each day. “Reach” ratings are not permitted.

Episode 2 of The Alliance is on tomorrow night (April 21).

Is this his form of social distancing so everyone stays 50 metres away?

He’s an edgelord.

Is that lingering smoke going to be a prominent feature of his show every night?

ew gross

If it covers up his face, his audience would go up.

Very late to this as I rarely read this thread but…

I agree in general with this premise - if you accept what Sky are trying to do, they do a good job of it. They’ve looked at what works in the opinion pages of their newspapers and on the highest rating radio stations, and turned that into a TV product. By that metric, they are quite obviously a success.

Opinion makes for a lot better television than the wishiwashi centrism, or false balance that holds back equivalent ABC programming - the desire to appear balanced gives you bland safe programming that pleases no one and rates accordingly.

Sure in general the ABC isn’t trying to make that kind of programming, but you do see that attempt to just avoid it, by having things like Planet America, using satire/comedy to sidestep being “biased” in covering America.

I don’t like the result Sky get to - but that’s mostly me disagreeing with their politics - that they are willing to be ‘political’ when covering news, means it would probably be better television than if they tried to play it straight.

But, I don’t watch it - other than occasionally seeing clips from their shows being horrible on social media, so I’m mostly just speculating.

I can’t stomach that show, it reeks of false balance, and is excruciatingly unfunny too.
