News Night is now also coming out of Surry Hills. From last night.
Screens are too big desk is too big people are too small ![]()
Well, it’s like…
That slanted striped background looks like a really cheap 7 ripoff.
It’s so clinical and too big.
Those backdrops are all sorts of vile. It’s like someone took LSD whilst staring at those old Coca-Cola glasses McDonald’s used to give away.
I quite like that Sky Weather set, it’s like a nicer version of Sky UK’s Westminster set. Floor is way too glossy, though. Would be nice to see some newsroom backdrops again instead of constant LED walls. I think a modern version of the 2006 set with some LED screens in the newsroom would look great.
Peak Sky News here.
If they shuttered the weather channel which seems pointless and integrated the reporting into Sky, they might have a better output on the main channel. But they need Fox Sports News and Sky News under the same branding ideally.
As a lot of US nets have proven, you don’t even need a live feed of the newsroom or put the studio near one.
Just feed the backdrop an edited loop with some monitors replaced by show logos and it will already look miles better.
I really like what CNN London did, which was to have a mini-control room to the side of the studio. It’s not seen very often, but (IMO) it looks great:
In fact that whole set is fantastic. Easily the best news set in the UK right now. Here’s a wide shot:
I was hoping and expecting something exactly like that CNN London set.
I agree, these new Sky sets are all sorts of ugly
Some of the Friday Opinion programmes have also began recording and broadcasting their shows out of Surry Hills.
Danica Di Giorgio
World According to Rowan Dean
US Report
That does look quite good that space background I won’t lie
Desk is to close to the wall, needs to come out more
Wonder how warm those screens are? The lights are bad enough so why add to it. Kinda reminds me of a bowling alley😅
Something looks off, there’s no perspective. Presenters look swallowed in the wide shots, the lighting seems dull, and the background are all truly hideous.
More Screenshots, this time from Weekend NewsDay. Coming from what looks like the same studio Danica Di Giorgio’s show came out of last night and possibly AM Agenda and Politics Now.
Jacinta Price in a discussion on Anika Wells’ expenses is a bit rich…
Jacinta Nampijinpa Price, the Coalition rising star charged with reducing government waste, has had to repay expenses she improperly claimed from the taxpayer 13 times totalling almost $11,000 and is being investigated again for potentially misusing her federally funded car to attend her husband’s concerts.
Some more screenshots of the new Soft Set.
Also broadcasting their first shows from the new digs are Danica & James and the Sunday Showdown.
Danica & James
Sunday Showdown which includes a screenshot of Caleb’s Interview conducted from one of their smaller studios used for pre-records etc.
Paul Murray’s first show from the new digs was interesting as it showed a backdrop of his Man Cave studio back at Macquarie Park but there was no wide angles of the studio. Just a zoom in at the beginning of the programme. I do wonder whether his Man Cave set will be dismantled and be re-assembled in one of the spare studios that have yet to be revealed at Surry Hills or will he do it from the Soft Set but with all his props to give the man cave feel.
Looks like the final wave of first shows will be tomorrow with Business Now, the Kenny Report, Sharri and the Late Debate.
