Sky News (2016-Feb 2025)

I don’t think it will be Fox. I reckon they’ll go for a new, separate brand. We know a lot of Fox News watchers in America also watch Sky Australia on YouTube. So I think News Corp will be keen to keep the two brands separate. My money would be on something like ‘AusNews’.

During the Sky News has news reports and is rather neutral.
It’s just the Sky News After Dark we don’t like… :dagger:

People that watch and consume Sky are probably Fox News fans also.

After the failure of TalkTV in UK, and considering Sky AU is more successful by audience share than Sky UK, maybe Rupe would be keen to double down on the fox brand.

If you like Fox News Us, you will like Fox News AU. It’s just growing the brand and empire

Views of Fox News AU on YouTube are hardly gonna take profits away from the US mothership

Of course not, and I never said they would. My thinking was more that they would want to keep the brands separate in order to paint a picture of ‘hey, it’s not just Fox News saying these things, another outlet is saying them, too!’ But we’ll see. You might be right actually, News Corp might prefer to reinforce the Fox News brand.

This is kinda the way I think they would see it.

It benefits the brand.

Actually that reminds me: weren’t there rumours a while back of Sky rebranding to Fox News Australia? I think it was around 2021. I remember because at least three insiders (or adjacent) on here ‘confirmed’ it. Not sure if it was just a rumour, or if it was actually in the works but fell through for whatever reason.

Yes that is correct, all the way back in May 2021!

Didn’t Sky News switch to a feed of Fox News on Friday afternoon?

Maybe that’s a hint.

I take your point but in my eyes (ears) Sky News is never neutral.

They’ve also switched to CNN and Sky UK in the past. They have multiple affiliation agreements as a 24 hr news network. And where else would they turn for RNC coverage.

Maybe NewsAus (playing off NewsMax in the US)

wasn’t that just more out of necessity (IT meltdown) rather than any strategic move?

Not sure why News would want to risk their premium Fox Sports brands being tarred by the output of a rebranded Fox News Australia.

Not sure the correlation is really there.

I can see Fox Sports and Fox News as distinctive services and I fail to see how the Fox sports would be tarnished.

We may know the difference thoufg but I think 100 percent Fox sports viewers would not give a chickens behind about the potential for a Fox News Australia news service.

Oh well. Just throwing it out there.

I think a move to “Fox News” would be the top pick if they can’t use the “Sky News” brand anymore.

I was talking about not wanting to tarnish Fox Sports . Don’t think that is a consideration.

i get the negativity of the Fox News brand, but theyre different divisions focusing on different things

people will still watch Fox Sports even if Fox News becomes a thing down here
