Well they tried to by their affiliate Prime Media Group (Prime7 & GWN7), but WIN’s Bruce Gordon & ACM’s Anthony Catalano wrecked that deal. I wonder if that situation has changed any.
Seven was with Yahoo from 2006 to 2018 with the Yahoo7 email portal and Yahoo7 website which were popular back in the days.
AOL|7 was another one with the i7 portal. i7 ident was shown at the end of 7 network shows in the 2000s.
They’re best bets at this stage is another play for Prime and then look at radio. Nova & ARN are best candidates here (not that they need it of course), but both have solid ratings across multiple demographics and across the 5 key cities. I reckon a merger is more likely for radio assets than a takeover, but one 7 pays down their debt, it could be really attractive.
Seven West Media has broken ranks with other big media players to broker a deal with Google to receive payments for articles featured in its Showcase.
This is not a good look! Sunrise brought to you by the Australian tax payer funding Sam and Kochie…
Seven CEO James Warburton says the company won’t be returning JobKeeper money, despite the media group returning to profit
Why would they if they were eligible for it during a time of economic destruction?
Cause plenty of businesses around Australia who have made profit, just like 7 and understand Brand is everything, have refunded the Job Keeper back to the Government.
Just some of the brands are Toyota, Super Retail Group, the owner of brands including Rebel, there has been a bedding company in SA. Plenty more on this list, understand brand is more important than looking greedy like seven are.
I’m happy for the Australian government to give Seven another $30 million if they promise not to make another series of Holey Moley.
And good luck to them. But we pay people to be in government to set the right parameters in the first instance - that is their job, otherwise they should not be managing taxpayer-sourced funds.
Warburton said:
We now have more options in terms of the future of the remaining assets that have been earmarked for sale. We are looking to monetise AirTasker in the upcoming IPO and proceeds will be used to pay down debt. Other venture options continue to be reviewed.
We have received offers for Seven Studios which we are considering. Studios is underpinned by a very attractive annuity-styled earnings stream which is very valuable. We remain open to selling Studios if it is value accretive.
The real problem, as you suggest, is the federal government has botched the JobKeeper programme.
It’s appalling that Morrison is happy to allow profitable companies to effectively rort the scheme (which was meant to support companies who were struggling because of pandemic shutdowns, which really didn’t impact 7WM, unlike a local café or even a university), but his government eagerly hounded innocent ordinary people who really were struggling with illegal and false RoboDebt claims.
(I wonder if there’ll be another round of RoboDebt after the federal election.)
Keeping their chums in big business happy but they gotta try to recoup that money somehow… what better place to look than the little people they tread on?

Seven partners with UN Women Australia for International Women’s Day
Seven West Media is proud to announce it has joined with UN Women Australia as the Australian broadcast partner for International Women’s Day (IWD) 2021.
The new partnership reflects the joint commitment of UN Women and Seven West Media to focus on gender equality and celebrate the accomplishments of women.
IWD is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender equality. Significant activity is witnessed worldwide as groups celebrate women’s achievements or rally for women’s equality, with the theme and focus for 2021 being “Women in Leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world”.
The partnership will see Seven West Media supporting key IWD events around Australia in the lead up to and on 5 March, three days before IWD.
We’re proud to enter into this partnership with UN Women Australia in support of International Women’s Day 2021.
For us, this is a natural partnership: our workforce has a 50-50 gender balance and over half of our managers are female. We’re honoured to join forces with UN Women Australia to celebrate International Women’s Day.
James Warburton, Seven West Media Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer
UN Women Australia looks forward to amplifying our work driving a gender equality acceleration agenda through this partnership.
It provides an important opportunity to reach more Australians this IWD and beyond, with a call to action around why equality matters, and the steps we can all take every day to enable every woman and girl equal opportunities to lead, learn, earn and live a life free from violence and discrimination.
Janelle Weissman, UN Women Australia Executive Director
As part of the partnership with UN Women Australia, Seven presenters will host IWD events around Australia. The five events will run simultaneously, reaching thousands of people across Australia.
We look forward to celebrating on Friday, 5 March as we reflect on this year’s theme of empowering women in leadership in a COVID-19 world, and supporting equality.
James Warburton, Seven West Media Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer
About UN Women
A global champion for women and girls, UN Women is the United Nations entity responsible for promoting women’s empowerment and gender equality and was established to accelerate progress to meet the needs of women and girls worldwide. UN Women Australia is a registered charity in Australia which exists to raise funds for and awareness of UN Women’s work across the Pacific and around the world.
Each year, UN Women Australia hosts the pre-eminent International Women’s Day events around the country – in Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and Perth – to celebrate global achievements and discuss actions needed to continue accelerating gender equality. The events create an opportunity for inclusion, drawing together people from diverse backgrounds across Australia to empower, inspire, motivate and benefit individuals and communities towards advancing gender equality, here in Australia and globally.
No country in the world has achieved gender equality. Through our events, we aim to put the spotlight on global issues that perpetuate gender inequality and highlight actions we can all take on the path to a gender equal world.
Sad but not a big surprise considering the cost of leasing in Sydney CBD and their financial situation.
Here’s hoping they get a new set at Eveleigh that is multi-purpose.
Saw this coming a year ago.
Isn’t multi-purpose, or at least works for multiple shows like Nine’s!
RIP “Channel Nine needs a street-side studio like Channel Seven”, 2004-2021.
