Seven West Media

True, it may be necessary, but for most of the people retrenched it’s not a nice feeling. The company may not be panicking, but the people who are fired may well be.

Well, absolutely. But that’s because of the industry and it’s massive transformation. The jobs that existed are no longer needed.

I mean, 10 has has 7-sized audiences for about the last decade. They almost went bankrupt.

The company is doing what’s right. And many of the people who work in the industry know it’s inevitable.

Prime’s board are recommending that shareholders vote to support the scheme

Of course they are, as it turns out, they have been negotiating behind closed doors.

With the new Seven-Prime Deal, 13 Regional News Services will come under the 7news Banner. That’s all of Queensland barring the South East, Four of New South Wales and One Each for Victoria and Western Australia.

If they do not cut any of them. They are looking for up to $11 million a year in recurring savings from Prime.

If they survive.

Is it to much to expect that ACMA approvals are conditional on maintaining regional content?

I can’t see any mention in the documentation released to the ASX of the Nine WA and Nine Mildura licences which Seven West will jointly own with WIN. I wonder if Seven will hold on to them or try to sell.

We’ve been told Seven will look at the Nine News Regional model for news operations across regionals. Base them in the capital cities and record from 3.30pm.

What I want to know is how they would get to $11 million in savings from this deal without any affect on news content. Would not expect much on the Seven side.

Oh dear, so basically newsrooms reduced to just 2 camera operators and 3 journalists.

I’d imagine by streamlining activities that are shared or duplicated

Will this acquisition cause a “trigger event” due to reaching more than 75% of the population.

That would mean that local content would need to increase from 720 points to 900 in the main aggregated areas and local content obligations outside there as well.

https://www.communications.gov.au/what-we-do/television/media/updating-australias-media-laws

To address concerns that changes to media ownership rules could reduce the amount of local content, the reforms will increase the required amount of local content points to 900, for the same period. These requirements will come into effect following a ‘trigger event’, or change in control of a regional commercial television licence, that results in it being in a group whose combined licence area populations exceeds 75 per cent of the Australian population.

The changes will also introduce obligations on commercial television broadcasters in smaller markets including Darwin, Mildura, Griffith and Broken Hill, as well as markets in South Australia and Western Australia, which are not currently subject to local content obligations. In these markets, broadcasters will be required to provide at least 360 points (minutes) of local content.

Wouldn’t be that far-fetched if they held onto it, Nine Entertainment Co. jointly owns the Darwin channel 10 affiliate (DDT) with SCA

Seven will now be the only commercial network to own a station in Canberra.

I can see 7 launching a beefed up 7 News there

Not only because it’s a big educated affluent market. But also because it’s The capital and 7 will want to look good to all the law makers as Tv needs more and more favors from Canberra moving forward

I imagine the Prime Media head office and studios at Watson in Canberra will be sold off for a residential development. The SCA land down the road was sold off a couple of years ago.

Maybe they will but the 6pm Sydney metro news is already a ratings winner for Prime so I think they should be careful about replacing it with something else, especially considering the added expense

well SWM are claiming 90% population reach.

Question:
What happens in regions were Prime or GWN are 50% partners with WIN?
