Well, something had to happen. Worner would have been removed sooner than later. It’s imminent that Seven will merge with News Corp as they have in the past - look at Nine merger. Worner was pushed and they had this guy in the mix - Warburton who destroyed ten will now do the same and make 7 the new ten. All the same rollercoaster at the end of the day… bean counters run the business. No doubt Worner has walked out regardless with some nice dosh in his bank account.
What about Better Homes and Gardens? A show that’s always flying under the radar yet dominating its timeslot for decades, often outrates ACA too.
Nine and especially 10 have always failed to find a competitor in the Friday 7pm/7:30pm - 8:30pm timeslot for a very long tome now.
Seems like you guys are suggesting Warburton is going to do to 7 what Jack Donaghy did to NBC (also go to 2:49mins & 5:55mins)!:
Didn’t he arrive after that?
Sorry I couldn’t keep up with the management changes at the time.
It was Warbo all that time with the string of flops.
In NSW, Qld, ACT and the NT the NRL is an adequate competitor on Friday night.
One of my favourite 30 Rocks seconds is and always will be Cricket Night in America! (at 1:18 in the video)
I think a lot of those were already committed to and in progress before Warburton came along. He probably had little choice but to see them through.
And I think Paul Henry was more Lachlan Murdoch’s pet project than Warburton’s.
Ten was also losing money well before Warburton took over, he was just the one holding the baby when the financial s*** started getting real at Ten.
I’ve no idea how he’ll go at Seven but his tenure at Ten was doomed from the start.
Little off topic. Would have though NT was AFL.
Interesting to hear about News Corp and Seven West maybe merging in the future.
From what I understand Nova ditched the concept during an advertising downturn around the time of the GFC - but I’ve also read that at one stage they played roughly the same quantity of ads within an hour, but with shorter, more frequent breaks. That simply wouldn’t translate to television well.
On the flipside, perhaps they can do a deal like SBS World Movies, where two or three principal sponsors have exclusivity in the ad breaks during a program. Might give them a chance to shorten some breaks and charge a premium?
Isn’t Being Roxy Jacenko part of 10’s Pilot Week this year?
AFL and NRL does not air on FTA between 7pm and 8pm on Fridays, that is the timeslot I was referring. Yes, around 8pm or after is live sport, as it’s always been…
Yes, this appears to be a joke based on shows presumably commissioned while Warburton was in charge of 10 such as Being Lara Bingle etc.
Also, I believe the show is called I Am Roxy.
What.
Do you mean the entire sixty minutes between 7pm and 8pm? I’m confused
Obviously I’m excluding the “pre Match”, etc.
AFL and NRL game start times are no earlier than 7:50pm on Friday nights, IIRC?
Stories in The Australian, SMH and AFR are theorising what deals James Warburton will do at Seven West - mergers with HT&E (ARN), Prime Media and oOh!media are mentioned as possiblities, with News buying Seven mentioned in passing. It is still rumoured that Kerry Stokes wants to sell Seven Group’s interest in Seven West. Seven West’s $500 million + debt is seemingly an impediment to Seven West buying another company.
