Seven v Nine News Ratings Comparisons

OzTam is controlled by the major networks, yes!
Unfortunately IIRC TV.Cynic can only publish figures that make the top 20. Sadly I don’t think that will be happening at a national level any time soon.

Yes the rule is that nothing outside what is posted in the daily ratings posts can be shown.

So that means only programs in the top 20 or making the top 20 consolidated from the previous weeks. It is also a consideration as to why 10 News isn’t included here because on some days it doesn’t make the top 20.

Oh oops, of course that’s the reason why. Disregard

Small winning margins in all east coast markets. Seven News nationally up 70,000 on same week last year thanks to large increases in Sydney and Melbourne.

Bulletins were down an average of 30,000 nationally with Brisbane and Seven Perth going again the trend. Melbourne and Brisbane the closest markets.

Nationally both bulletins were down on the last two weeks. Tennis not proving to be the best lead in for Nine News bulletins in all markets except Melbourne. Seven has a rare win in Sydney, having won the same week in 2019. Elsewhere The Project has its best week since September 2019.

Interesting to see the year on year averages, numbers are still going down. Can we say 10 News First at 6pm is having more of an influence on the downfall?

It’s almost impossible to say without further info that we don’t have but it probably has some effect. Every year the comparison to the previous year shows a fall, at least nationally. With the bush fire coverage it was only week 2 where Seven’s bulletins showed a significant improvement.

There is also the national bulletin on the ABC at 6pm So greater competition this year.

Thats gone as of next Friday.

Yeah, the national edition of ABC News at 6pm was just a temporary thing for Summer.

I’m sure (or at least hope) the ABC would go for state/territory-based editions if they were to ever have 6pm news as a permanent fixture in their weeknight schedule.

PS. 10 News did OK last week and ranked ahead of Nine News in Perth and ABC News in Brisbane.

Ironically probably less competition that ABC’s usual programming!

National ratings for Seven, Nine, 10 and ABC were all the highest so far this year. Nine did best when it won Monday and Tuesday but fell away for the rest of the week.

The Australians Open has helped nine news push out its lead in Melbourne, but swung the other way in Sydney.

Also worth noting that Peter Mitchell is still away. They need him back ASAP.

Interesting to see that Seven News in Sydney won both the Australian Open weeks this year.

Question is, can they beat their rivals when it matters most (i.e. when the ratings season starts)?

National ratings for Seven, Nine, 10 and ABC were all the highest so far this year. Nine did best when it won Ahead of the official ratings next week, Nine News drops 100k in a week while Seven is up 10k. Nine is also way down on same week last year.

Fergo off to a great start in Sydney.

With Seven News winning the Australian Open weeks and Nine only just ahead this week, I genuinely wonder if the recently launched graphics have been a turn-off for some Sydney viewers?

It’ll be very interesting to see what happens next week, especially with Sydney’s weather being ideal for TV viewership over the next seven days…

Although it’s still not as good as the victory Michael Usher (who really should be the main Sunday-Thursday presenter IMO) scored in July last year when he managed to get Seven News Sydney their first weekly win during the first half of a ratings year since 2012!
