Seven & Ten News (SCA)

Much better tonight. It’s got music, pace, and felt professionally presented. Makes me want a full bulletin.

Hopefully they can find a way to get some footage to accompany the stories in the future.

Those 30 second updates are good. A bit of footage and it will be pretty decent.

Yes the longer ones ramble on and not necessarily relevant. You could source multiple brief stories for the longer ones but they don’t want to do the hard yards to make the scripts flow a bit better.

But with the Audio bedded in the update it does sound a little better.

Yes, an improvement. Is there anyway they could have a side graphic window next to the presenter with standard template pictures for each story?

Some standard pictures / clips could be Police / Fire / Freeway / Covid…etc

Wouldn’t take long to create a small data base.

Night and day compared with day one. It’s good to see that they’re experimenting with different formats instead of reviving the Canberra format and sticking with that for another 15 years, the shorter updates definitely work in their favour. Somebody from SCA might be reading this forum and taking notes!

Huge improvement. Amazing the difference it makes having the music bed playing throughout.

If they’re going to keep going with the bare minimum, I much prefer the snappy 30 seconds (presumably these air more often?) than the drawn out two minutes that somehow manages to deliver what seems like less information.

Fully agree.
They should stick to the 30-second updates and air them every half hour throughout the day. Would be much better than before.

As every news item has to be new and never broadcast before to be counted as news under the points system, if there were only 30 second updates you would need to watch SCA 10 all day to catch all the various news stories. Sounds like a very boring day watching endless hours of 10.

But think of all the Survivor promos you’d get to see

I’m not sure your point, you haven’t really highlighted anything I didn’t cover?

They all have some sort of experience, whether on the job or as an intern.

Anyway, as has been established tonight the updates are getting better. If they stick to the shorter updates with catchy headlines they’ll be okay.

But as mentioned previously, if negotiated we’ll with 10, these should really just act as promos for the 5pm news.

Can you tell if they only have 1 Presenter covering Queensland?

It’s possible they’re only airing updates in 5 sub-markets instead of the full 7 because that’s the minimum required.

Why do they say I’ll be back in an hour with more news, who is watching tv and going to stick around for these updates? Must be on the template because the Tasmanian updates all end that way.

Judging by recordings on YouTube for Darwin, Central and Tasmania updates, this hasn’t really ever been the case. The presenter (usually Alex) will finish the weather and then the update ends. Occasionally, they’ll end with “that’s all the news for now”, but nothing more.

Saw two updates within about 15 minutes this afternoon in Canberra.
Today was a lot better, though again every single suburb name mentioned was pronounced wrong except Canberra.

On the weather, Sophie read out the weather for local locations that weren’t on the map, but mispronounced Goulburn in the read out.

Why aren’t these scheduled at times when clearly the audience tuned in is pre-disposed to wanting News.

These need to Air as 2 minute inserts in

Yes but a 2 minute slot in key programming takes up space real companies want to advertise in.

WIN Northern NSW just patch a lot of their local updates over Ten Sydney’s daytime News updates.

If they were similar to the extended Darwin updates during COVID which were inserted into full ad breaks during the metro bulletin, I would agree. The one below would be most achievable for SCA: one full packaged story that’s book ended by studio-read pieces with vision, but that would require one video journalist on the ground in each local market (15-17 journos).

However, their current 2 minute updates are not suited to being inserted into the metro bulletin ad breaks, even if they did include vision. Their updates are only surface-level content to fill a legislative requirement, nothing more. Something inserted in the metro bulletin needs more depth than that.

They’re finding their feet with the new 30-second short updates that best suits the content they’re currently making. I think for the time being they should stick with and develop that.

I mean within the news, windows that Sandra silly can throw to. In The project they can be exclusively sponsored to generate revenue
