ABC News uses a few different images on the backdrop on one bulletin. I’ve seen this on NSW, QLD, NT and ACT bulletins.
For example in Queensland I’ve seen them open with a tropical Great Barrier Reef image. Use a Brisbane or Gold Coast skyline In the middle. And close with a dry desert outback image.
NSW uses two different Sydney backdrops in one bulletin.
And NT also úsese multiple images in one bulletin.
Or, they could pick one image that represents the viewing area: Hobart or a beauty SA Coastal short for example
Or, I’ve seen CTV This morning in Canada use a backdrop that slowly slowly rotates through many different Canadian cities. It looks fantastic.
Pretty certain this part of the desk is a duratran / affixed sign rather than a screen unfortunately, should have been a screen but with how long they took to finish building the set, they may not have know that Canberra production would be moved down there.
In regards to the theme I assume it’s because it’s a market that aids Seven News at 6pm prior to the airing of this bulletin, and they don’t want the implication that the product is produced by Seven. I assume Tasmania gets to use it because they’ve used the Seven theme since the 90’s.
Second bulletin with Kim tonight and to be honest, it didn’t feel like anything out of the ordinary. I was working away and the voice came on and it was just like how it had been for years - a perfect start in a way and a smooth transition.
Murph is loving it back in the weather set again I think - his banter tonight was “and thanks for allowing me to be on your show tonight, Kim” or along those lines and she bites back too which is good to have.
I haven’t checked the ratings but I feel like the transition from Jo -> Murph -> Kim couldn’t have gone any smoother really. Certainly not what WIN would have wanted.
The last livestream ended with a new promo fearing Kim in place of Murph. Also specifically cut footage from The Latest with Mel mentioning Tasmania. Still keeping the “7 News at 6” line, but the rest of the voiceover seemed to have changed some other wording.
He has certainly given her a good welcome back this week! I don’t think she was expecting an easy come back to the job from that aspect though. It is great that she does fight back quickly too!
There were several times when Jo was there that he would say something and she’d look mortified and quickly finish the bulletin and you knew that as soon as the cameras stopped she was gonna go off at him! It’s certainly a unique part of the bulletin and thankfully in this day and age they’re still able to get away with it because there’s a lot of places where I doubt they’d even try it or be able to have the chemistry to do it.
You’re right, I was only thinking 5 minutes ago that some of it would fly right over the top of some peoples humour muscles and go right into their rage sector. People in Tasmania that know the duo will love it. Others will not understand it. It’s a niche market
Does anyone else think that the Nightly News > 7 Spencer Gulf, voice over sounds a little quiet and somewhat robotic? (Like he is speaking through a fan)
Alright - I’ve finally got all the cutting and the sound issues sorted and found some new software to use - I’ll add a post to follow on to my other random stuff one too.
Anyway - here’s a look back to how Tasmania was faring only 1 month ago when 7Tas aired their late news bulletin. The Olympics were still going ahead, pubs, clubs and gyms had only been shut for a few hours, cases were still low and nobody could predict what was about to happen in Burnie and for the hospitals in the north-west.
