Seven & Ten News (SCA)

New temporary end screen while they figure out who the hell is going to take the lead now

I wouldn’t be surprised if Murph retires soon

Thanks for the cap, was going to get one on there, it now shows after all the news updates and the bulletins. Leads me to think that things were just as sudden for 7 Tas as it was for the public because it seems like there’s still quite an element of unknown there but I’d say Rachel will definitely be presenting a lot more of the weeknights and Louise who did tonight and Tom Johnson who did the updates today and has done the bulletins before may get a few more gigs.

Outside chance - Murph! He has filled in the night that Jo went home sick mid-way through the bulletin, he could do it again to show his serious side!

I hope not! That would probably really get me to not worry about the news or to switch channels. I didn’t think I ever really had strong feelings for Jo but she’s definitely going to leave a big hole at the station there and the rapport that her and Murph have had and played upon for several years has certainly not hurt the bulletins.

Weatherman Peter Murphy will act as interim anchor until a replacement is found. You’d assume that means it won’t be Rachel?

Rachel has a young family too so might have turned it down also. I was only joking when I said Murph earlier but happy with that. I think he’ll be good.

He’d make a good permanent presenter I reckon.

Jo has had a young family for much of the last 20 years.
People need to stop assuming that it is some kind of impediment.

I didn’t mean it as an impediment, more a personal choice. I can’t see any reason really other than her not wanting to do it/family circumstances for her not getting the weeknight shift.

We have a young family, I understand exactly what it’s like.

They might not want her. She’s ok, but they might just had other plans.

as might have she. She might have nil interest in doing it.

There’s a lot of people calling for her to take on the role on Facebook so she’s clearly popular, she could also be rearranging things with her schedule so that she can - I’ve got no idea what her partner does or type of hours he works. So many possibilities and at the moment nobody knows.

Murph completed his first bulletin tonight and had a couple of comments about Jo - mainly after Tom Johnstone made a comment at the end of sport about how he should have rearranged so that sport and weather were before the news. Later on Jackie with the weather made a crack about them having to use the soft filter and the wide angle lens for him at the news desk and Murph commented that it sounded like an ex-newsreader may have been writing some weather scripts now and something about losing one and copping it from another. He also said when closing that it felt quite strange without Jo Palmer there but rest assured his position in the chair is only quite temporary.

He’s been doing the news updates as well, it’s a different feel to with Jo but he’s done ok, I think after a few nights he’ll be right into the swing of things, he’s an experienced broadcaster but it would be different switching from the role of larrikin weather presenter and 5 minutes of air time to serious news presenter of 45 minutes.

Also because he largely shows up at 5pm to do the weather doesn’t he, after doing his day job as an accountant?

Yeah, he would certainly have a full day. I think he’s a manager with TasPlan now but he has been a bank manager in the past.

Looks like they’re falling behind with their upload schedule - hasn’t been an upload since Saturday

Anyone got tonight’s recording?

The ABC is reporting this morning that former news anchor Jo Palmer has been chosen as the endorsed Liberal candidate for the seat of Rosevears in the Tasmanian Legislative Council which is one of the seats having an election later this year - usually around May. The current member, Kerry Finch (a former ABC broadcaster for may years from memory) is retiring. The ABC is saying they’re expecting there will be a news release around 9:30 this morning confirming. She will then be up against the former Launceston mayor Janie Finlay who is also quite a popular person so it will be an interesting battle.
