Ahh okay, I could actually see that working out well.

But in reality, Seven would probably want ads to capitalise on the huge audiences they’ll be getting that evening.

Could have one before and after. Knowing Seven’s cost cutting at the moment though, I think my entire ‘schedule’ is probably very far off.

Aussie stars Gilmore, Fitzgibbons, Wilson & Wright to shine on Seven as pro surfing finally returns

World Surf League LIVE and FREE on Seven – Sunday and Monday

Surf stars Stephanie Gilmore, Sally Fitzgibbons, Julian Wilson and Owen Wright headline the Aussies out to make a splash when the World Surf League (WSL) returns on Seven this Sunday with the Australian Grand Slam of Surfing’s opening event – the Tweed Coast Pro.

Gilmore, Fitzgibbons, Wilson and Wright will make up Australia’s entire surfing team for the Olympic Games in Tokyo next July, but they’re just some of the big names who’ll take to the water at Cabarita Beach on Sunday when the WSL returns to the ocean for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic began.

Star-studded fields of 12 will contest both the men’s and women’s events that run across Sunday and Monday, with the action kicking off at 7.00am AEST on Sunday LIVE and FREE on 7mate and 7plus.

In the women’s event, seven-time world champion Gilmore and 2011 runner-up Fitzgibbons will face stiff opposition from two-time world champ Tyler Wright and one of surfing’s most exciting young talents Molly Picklum.

While in the men’s, the always entertaining Mikey Wright – the brother of Owen and Tyler – and Margaret River prodigy Jack Robinson are among the other leading contenders.

Managing Director Seven Melbourne and Head of Network Sport Lewis Martin commented:

“This spring is shaping up as the most spectacular festival of sport we’ve ever seen on Seven – and welcoming the World Surf League to our coverage just adds to the sense of excitement. Fans will see Australia’s very best surfers go head to head at some of surfing’s most iconic locations, as one of the world’s most thrilling sports finally gets back into the water.”

Seven’s commentary team will be led by prominent surf journalists Ronnie Blakey and Vaughan Blakey, along with former tour surfers Laura Enever, Richie Lovett, Luke Munro and Jodie Cooper.

Fans can also keep up to date with all the action at @7Sport on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

The Australian Grand Slam of Surfing runs until October 31 and also includes the Boost Mobile Pro Gold Coast and Margaret River Pro.

Verry Elleegant and Behemoth bid for more Group 1 glory on Seven

Saturday 12.00pm AEST

Star thoroughbreds Verry Elleegant and Behemoth will be out to continue their fast starts to the Spring Racing Carnival this Saturday on Seven, when fans will enjoy all the LIVE and FREE action from George Main Stakes Day at Royal Randwick and MRC Foundation Race Day at Caulfield.

Verry Elleegant kick-started her spring campaign with a courageous victory in last month’s Group 1 Winx Stakes at Randwick, and the Chris Waller -trained mare will start favourite in the George Main Stakes (1600m) on Saturday.

The Waller stable has a strong hand in the Group 1 weight-for-age feature, with Kolding , Imaging and Star of the Seas also confirmed starters, but Verry Elleegant’s main opposition is expected to come from last year’s victor Avilius and Tramway Stakes winner Dreamforce .

At Caulfield, Behemoth looms as the horse to beat in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) after his last-start victory in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes. However, the David Jolly -trained gelding will have to beat a deep field in the Group 1 feature headlined by Blue Diamond Stakes winner Tagaloa , Age of Chivalry , Superstorm and last year’s winner Begood Toya Mother .

Australia’s pre-eminent broadcaster Bruce McAvaney will again lead racing’s best commentary team, which on Saturday features Hamish McLachlan , Katelyn Mallyon and prominent Victorian trainer Henry Dwyer . Jason Richardson and Sky Racing’s Lizzie Jelfs will also be trackside at Caulfield and Randwick respectively, bringing fans all the news and interviews.

Saturday’s other highlights include the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) and The Shorts (1100m) at Randwick, and the Group 3 Naturalism Stakes (2000m) and How Now Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield.

I’d say with the MVRC releasing the race times for Cox Plate Day, it’s probably a safe bet to say that Seven will commence broadcasting from 11:30am and conclude at 5:00pm.

New Seven Sport promo aired during the AFL tonight, with the slogan “Spring like no other” and led by Mel McLaughlin. The clip mentions The Everest, The Golden Eagle, Caulfield Cup, Cox Plate, AFL finals and the women’s ODI and T20 cricket series between Australia and New Zealand.

That doesn’t look like a sports promo at all, not sure if I’m a fan.

When I saw the first part of it last night, I thought it was a Better Homes and Gardens promo. I agree that it doesn’t look like a sport promo.
