That’s 3 weeks in a row of 49er games on 7. They are supposed to do well but maybe 7’s thinking is that after they were in Melb, they could have gained some new fans?

In exciting news for racing fans, Australian Racing Hall of Famer Glen Boss returns to Seven’s coverage this Spring, following an exceptional Brisbane Racing Carnival with the network earlier this year.
Making his Seven Spring Racing Carnival debut at the milestone 10th running of The Everest at Randwick on Saturday, 17 October, Boss will join Australia’s pre-eminent sports broadcaster, Bruce McAvaney, as he leads another action-packed carnival on Seven
Joining them will be racing’s #1 commentary team, including Emma Freedman, Jason Richardson, Katelyn McDonald, Lizzie Jelfs, House of Wellness host Shane Crawford and 7NEWS Sport Reporter Xander McGuire.
Further solidifying Seven as the home of thoroughbred racing, the network will also broadcast a group of international racing’s biggest events, including this Sunday’s Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe from Paris, Kentucky’s 2026 Breeders’ Cup World Championships and the Longines Hong Kong International Races.
Seven’s Head of Horse Racing, Joel Starcevic said: “We’re set for a spectacular Spring Racing Carnival, packed with huge racedays, incredible stories and some truly historic moments – headlined by the 150th running of the Caulfield Cup, the 10th Everest and a Cox Plate unlike any we’ve seen before.
“Across the country, the coming weeks will showcase the very best of Australian racing, and Seven will be right at the heart of the action with an exceptional team led by the incomparable Bruce McAvaney,” he said.
“Bruce’s knowledge and passion for racing is unrivalled, and alongside some of the most respected, insightful and entertaining voices in the sport, Seven and 7plus is the ultimate racing destination this spring.
“We’re also delighted to welcome Glen Boss back to the team after a brilliant Brisbane Racing Carnival with Seven. Few people know the pressure, theatre and excitement of Spring Racing quite like Bossy. His record on the biggest stages speaks for itself, and that experience gives him a unique insight into what it takes – and who has what it takes – to deliver when the stakes are at their highest.
“With major racedays coming thick and fast throughout October and November, we’re in for an incredible stretch of racing and we can’t wait to bring the colour, excitement and every big moment of the Spring Carnival to Australians live and free on Seven and 7plus.”
Seven has long been the undisputed leader in racing broadcasting and continues that rich tradition in 2026.
In 2026, Seven’s racing coverage has reached 8.13 million Australians across broadcast and 7plus, with Total TV audiences up 12% year-on-year and streaming audiences surging 84% growth year on year.
The Spring Racing calendar is the pinnacle of the 7Racing portfolio, which covers the very best Australian thoroughbred racing live and free every Saturday of the year as part of the most significant free-to-air broadcast deal in the history of the sport.
The long-term agreement with Racing Victoria and Racing NSW, which includes key race days in conjunction with Racing Queensland and Racing SA, cements Seven as Australia’s home of racing, and means Australians enjoy 52 weeks of elite racing across the country.
This Saturday, Seven will bring viewers all the excitement of TAB Epsom Day and TAB Turnbull Stakes Day, with coverage starting from 12.00pm AEST
Seven’s international racing coverage continues this Sunday night and Monday morning with one of the most prestigious races on the global calendar, the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, live from Paris Longchamp Racecourse on 7plus from 12.30am AEDT.
Named the world’s best horse race five times in the past eight years, ‘The Arc’ brings together some of the finest thoroughbreds from around the globe over 2400 metres, competing for €5 million in prizemoney.
Then, Seven will bring Australian racing fans the 2026 Breeders’ Cup World Championships from Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Kentucky. The two-day, 14-race spectacular boasts more than US$30 million in prizemoney, headlined by the US$7 million Breeders’ Cup Classic.
Coverage begins on the morning of Saturday, 31 October on 7two and 7plus, leading into a blockbuster day of racing at Royal Randwick, where the $10 million Golden Eagle headlines more than $15 million in prizemoney. Coverage of the Breeders’ Cup continues on Sunday morning.
Seven’s international racing coverage will heat up following an epic Spring Racing Carnival, taking viewers to Sha Tin on Sunday, 13 December for the Longines Hong Kong International Races, featuring four Group 1 contests – the Hong Kong Cup, Hong Kong Mile, Hong Kong Sprint, which is set to be headlined by Ka Ying Rising and Hong Kong Vase – live and free on 7plus.

Culbert already does Olympics, Canoeing and Tennis for Nine
I think this was established by way of this earlier:
I believe 7’s athletics coverage was only casual. They only ever showed the Maurie Plant meet.
The other Athletics Australia meets were streamed live on 7plus only.
Weren’t some of these also shown on YouTube and not exclusively on 7plus?
With all the sport going over to Nine, SevenSport have been able to keep the TDU.
I couldn’t find a link to a story to find out how long the extension is.
I have found the article at Tour Down Under website. It only says it’s a multi-year deal.
Australia’s greatest cycling race the Santos Tour Down Under (TDU) will remain live and free on the Seven Network, with a multi-year broadcast deal confirmed.
It means the long-standing partnership, which began in 2019, will see the Seven Network continue to hold exclusive domestic rights to broadcast the race across the screens of Seven and 7plus.
Next January will be an historic edition of the race with the TDU to become the first in the world to hold men’s and women’s racing over the same distance and on the same day.
The men’s race will be held over six stages from January 19-24, coinciding with the three-stage women’s race from January 22-24, and culminating with a bumper final weekend in Willunga and Stirling.
The new agreement with Seven will see every stage of both men’s and women’s races continue to be broadcast live and in their entirety across the network’s linear channels and streaming platform 7plus.
Viewers will be able to watch coverage of both men’s and women’s races live on separate broadcasts when they begin from 10.30am and 12.10pm respectively.
Coverage of both races will include their own specialist commentary teams delivering expert analysis, roadside updates and separate motos and helicopters providing vision from the road and the air. A full breakdown of where each stage can be seen will be available closer to the event.
International broadcast partners will have access to both men’s and women’s races, which this year reached 190 international markets with almost 1400 hours of broadcast coverage.
The TDU’s world class commentary teams provide insight and entertainment for every stage of men’s and women’s racing, with details of the 2027 commentary teams coming soon.
Quotes attributable to Santos Tour Down Under Race Director Stuart O’Grady:
“The 2027 Santos Tour Down Under will make history when the men’s and women’s pelotons race over the same distance, on the same day, and we are thrilled it will remain on the screens of the Seven Network so people all across Australia can tune in and feel part of the action.
“Central to holding men’s and women’s races on the same days next year was ensuring it continues to deliver on our commitment to broadcasting both races in full, and this model will ensure we reach as many cycling fans as possible.
“The ongoing partnership with Seven ensures South Australia and our season-opening UCI WorldTour event will continue to be showcased to a massive audience beyond those cheering on the riders from the side of the roads.”
Quotes attributable to Seven Network Head of Sport – Digital, Kirsty Bradmore:
“The Santos Tour Down Under is one of Australia’s greatest sporting events and we’re incredibly proud to continue our commitment to making every glittering moment accessible to all Australians, live and free on Seven and 7plus.
“There is something incredibly special about seeing the world’s best cyclists competing afront a picturesque South Australian backdrop, and we want every Australian to have the opportunity to be part of it, wherever they are.
“As we continue the countdown to Tuesday, 19 January we look forward to working with our valued partners at the Santos Tour Down Under to unveil our full broadcast schedule and commentary line-up shortly.”

10th edition of The Everest and 150th running of the Caulfield Cup, live and free on Seven and 7plus
Australia’s biggest Saturday in racing is here, with two historic milestones taking centre stage as the world’s richest race on turf, the TAB Everest, celebrates its 10th running, while the iconic Sportsbet Caulfield Cup marks its 150th edition, live and free on Seven, 7two and 7plus.
In a blockbuster day of Spring Racing Carnival action, Seven will bring Australians the very best of Sydney and Melbourne racing, with all the glitz, glamour and excitement of the Everest Carnival at Royal Randwick alongside the rich history and tradition of the Caulfield Cup.
With two of the nation’s most prestigious races headlining an unmissable afternoon on the turf, fans can catch every moment from Australia’s richest raceday, live and free from 12.00pm AEDT on Seven, 7two and 7plus.
Australian Racing Hall of Famer Glen Boss and Australia’s pre-eminent sports broadcaster, Bruce McAvaney, headline Seven’s coverage from Royal Randwick and Caulfield Racecourse, joined by racing’s #1 commentary team, including Emma Freedman, Jason Richardson, Katelyn McDonald, Lizzie Jelfs and 7NEWS Sport Reporter Xander McGuire, with Kate Waterhouse also joining the broadcast.
Australian Racing Hall of Famer and Australia’s pre-eminent sport broadcaster, Bruce McAvaney, said: “There’s no question this is the biggest Saturday in Australian racing, with two of the top races taking centre stage.
“The Everest is the world’s richest race on turf and this year has attracted one of the most significant horses in world racing, Ka Ying Rising. He’s a genuine worldwide phenomenon, which means it won’t just be Australia and Hong Kong watching, it will be the whole world. With an outstanding field assembled for the 10th edition, it promises to be something special.
“Then you have the 150th running of the Caulfield Cup, one of the great races of the Melbourne spring,” he said.
“There is so much history and tradition surrounding this race, and with no clear-cut favourite we’re in for a great day of racing. There are some international contenders and the defending champion Half Yours returns. It’s incredibly rare for a horse to return and win the Caulfield Cup again, let alone after winning both the Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup. He will attract plenty of attention following a jockey change, with Jamie Melham making the decision to head to the Everest to ride three-year-old filly Blue Door. That in itself, is significant.
“What New South Wales has done so cleverly is built a full program around the phenomenon that is the Everest, with the King Charles III Stakes also now a major event. We have Australia’s number one racehorse Autumn Glow, up against the horse that’s won it the past two years in Ceolwulf, and the iron lady in Pride of Jenni. If it were on its own, it would be one of the highlights of the spring, but to have it alongside the Everest makes this, without question, the biggest Saturday in Australian racing.”
With over $41 million of prize money across the two venues on Saturday, Everest Stakes Day is headlined by the $20 million Everest led by defending champion Ka Ying Rising, who is chasing a second Everest win and remains the dominant favourite in early betting, with Zac Purton riding again. He faces plenty of big threats, with Tempted, Jimmysstar, Ninja and three-year-old filly Blue Door joined by Joliestar, a third-time runner, and 2022 winner Giga Kick.
It also sees the King Charles III Stakes featuring the reigning Australian Horse of the Year, Autumn Glow. Ridden by champion jockey James McDonald, she will face off against Ceolwulf, who is chasing a third straight win in the race after successfully defending his title in 2025, and fan favourite Pride of Jenni.
The 150th Caulfield Cup is wide open this year, the in form Cosmic Crusader will be looking to give WA’s top hoop William Pike his first major and defending champion Half Yours is aiming to become the first back-to-back winner of the race since 1955. Jockey Ethan Brown has given up his Everest ride to pilot Zahrann who is looking to bounce back, while a host of internationals fill the race in intrigue including Wine Dark Sea, Enfjaar and Starford.
This year, fans will also be able to tune in to the highly anticipated barrier draw of the 10th edition of the Everest Stakes, with Emma Freedman to host Seven’s coverage from Luna Park, live and free from 8.00pm AEDT on Tuesday, 13 October on 7plus.
Seven’s international racing coverage also continues with the 2026 Breeders’ Cup World Championships from Keeneland Racecourse in Kentucky on Saturday, 31 October and Sunday, 1 November, live and free on 7two and 7plus, before the Longines Hong Kong International Races take centre stage at Sha Tin on Sunday, 13 December, live and free on 7plus.
The racing action forms part of a massive week of sport on Seven and 7plus, headlined by the Rugby League World Cup 2026, which kicks off with Australia v New Zealand at 7.00pm AEDT Thursday, 16 October, before the NFL continues on Friday morning.
Viewers can also tune into wall-to-wall women’s sport this week, with Australia taking on Bangladesh in the third Women’s ODI on Wednesday, before facing New Zealand in the first T20 on Sunday, while Round 10 of the AFLW season gets underway on Friday with Melbourne taking on Richmond, all live and free on Seven and 7plus.
