I think that was Dave Culbert.
It was all going to smoothly half an hour ago too, including dry and bright sunshine. Typical Victorian weather ![]()
And yes LOL at Culbert!
Offers an apology.
The audio quality was poor during Goutâs semi final.
Seven having terrible technical problems, Bruce McAvaneyâs mic seems most affected, at one stage just high pitched sounds and crackles and silence, producers overheard in the background too, think Culbertâs F-bomb summed it up.
Not trying to sound too critical, as I realise itâd only be a very small production compared to say an AFL GF with limited resources and a lot going on quickly, but it almost seems like they didnât prepare for that bad weather at all. Commentators clearly out in the wide open, including non-waterproof technology and even their scripts/data sheets.
They were lucky playout didnât need to throw to ad breaks / put on replacements for a bit. Recall this happened last year and finals were even during AFL/ pre game?
And after last yearâs chaos too!
Forecast has been suggesting rain for the majority of the week - I donât think anyone could write this off as âunforseenâ
Massive diva, Iâm surprised it wasnât him swearing on air.

Queensland Derby Day at Eagle Farm will take centre stage on Saturday 31 May, featuring the Group 1 $1 million Queensland Derby (2400m), and the Group 1 $1 million Kingsford Smith Cup (1300m). Over 20,000 racegoers packed into Doomben Racecourse to watch the unbeaten Black Caviar win the 2011 edition of the latter â previously known as the BTC Cup.
This year, The Everest and Doomben 10,000 winner, Giga Kick, will bid to etch his name into the history books. Meanwhile, the Lord Mayors Cup Day featuring the Listed Lord Mayors Cup (2000m) will star at Rosehill.
A day which kicked off Winxâs incredible 25 Group 1 race win streak, Seven Oaks Day at Eagle Farm on Saturday, 7 June will provide an abundance of glamour and grit as Australiaâs best three-year-old fillies stake out the Group 1 $700,000 Queensland Oaks (2200m). Further south, Randwick will play host to Winter Cup Day and Flemington will present its popular VRC Community Day.
Stradbroke Day at Eagle Farm on Saturday, 14 June brings a spectacular conclusion to Queenslandâs Stradbroke Season, headlined by the Group 1 $3 million The Star Stradbroke Handicap (1400m). Recent notable winners to emerge from the Stradbroke include Think About It and star mare Bella Nipotina.
Other key races on the card include the Group 1 $1 million Ladbrokes JJ Atkins (1600m) and Group 2 $1.2 million Q22 (2200m). Caufield and Melbourne Cup victor Without A Fight won the Q22 in 2023, while Knightâs Choice won last yearâs edition before snaring the time-honoured Melbourne Cup, making it a terrific form line in the lead up to the majors.
Sevenâs coverage will be led by horse racingâs number #1 commentary team including racing royalty Emma Freedman, Jason Richardson, Lizzie Jelfs and Katelyn McDonald.
Sevenâs Head of Horse Racing and Cricket, Joel Starcevic, said: âIâm thrilled to be leading Australiaâs best horse racing coverage with a team of talented experts and producers. Seven will bring fans the best of the Queenslandâs Stradbroke Season across the next four Saturdays with incredible Group 1 events including the Doomben Cup, Queensland Derby, Seven Oaks, and The Stradbroke, live and free on Seven and 7plus Sport.â
Seven has long been the undisputed leader in racing broadcasting and continues that rich tradition in 2025. In 2024, Sevenâs racing coverage reached 10.2 million Australians (across broadcast and BVOD) and was up 51% year-on-year on 7plus Sport.
A long-term agreement to 2027 with Racing Victoria and Racing NSW, which includes key race days in conjunction with Racing Queensland and Racing SA, cements Seven as Australiaâs home of racing and means Australians enjoy 52 weeks of elite racing across the country.

7 in talks to be the NBL mid season tournament broadcaster. Games would air on a Wednesday night from Round 4.

So not the regular season/playoffs but a mid season tournament?
The article is also on the websites of News Corp papers.
Some excerpts:
While the NBL and Seven are currently in preliminary talks, there is optimism the two parties can strike a deal in what would be a major coup.
The NBL is yet to finalise its broadcast deal for NBL26, but itâs understood current holders ESPN and Channel 10 look set to return.
The mid-season event is looking to start in Round 4, with games played every Wednesday night.
The two highest ranked teams based on the Wednesday night points will play in a one-off grand final game in February to be played for prize money.
The full NBL schedule for 2025/26 season is set to be released in mid-June.
10 asleep at the wheel?
Says current holders incl 10 are set to return.
10 would be interested in the extra game, but itâll come down to $$ - and sounds like NBL want to be in Sevenâs ecosystem supported by much bigger sports they can leverage.
Not really something 10 can compete with.
I think NBL wants a bigger audience too especially for a mid season tournament. If itâs a prime time Wednesday night they probably think 7 would get more viewers than 10. It can also lead to people watching the regular season on 10 & ESPN as well.
If this goes to 7 & it works well then NBL could ditch 10 & sign with 7 as a partner for ESPN for the regular and playoffs from when the current deal with 10 expires.
Mid season tournament games (outside the final) would count for the regular season as well. Like the NBA Cup does in the NBA.
From what Iâve read thereâs going to be 20 tournament games on Wednesday nights. So I think itâll go from October 8th until February 18.
Interested to see how that mixes with the BBL though.
The timing of the mid-season tournament GF would work perfectly for Seven. They would be able to go from that straight into the start of the AFL season and Autumn Racing Carnival.
