Odd, so maybe Seven are actually involved in the broadcasting this weekend?

Maybe they just asked them to do it since it was on FTA over here

That’s probably it - White has also done opt-outs for The CW’s weekend coverage this year when they’ve had to leave earlier than the world feed coverage ended.

Abbey Gelmi just announced on-air during the half time report of tonight’s AFL, she’ll be one of the personalities (and the network’s own - weekend sports anchor on Seven News Melbourne currently on maternity leave) going down the slide at the King’s Birthday clash for this year’s Fight MND ‘Big Freeze at the G’.

She filmed a package and also perhaps interestingly said “I’ve missed you guys”, while Hamish (tonight’s host) said “looking forward to working with Abs again” :eyes: If rumours (IMO sceptical) during the Tokyo Olympics and Birmingham Comm Games are anything to go by… @TV.Cynic

Mega week ahead for sport fans

Cricket, racing, AFL and Big Freeze 9 lead action-packed schedule on Seven

Winter sports action is about to heat up in a mega week of cricket, racing and AFL blockbusters, live, free and exclusive across the screens of Seven.

Headlining a sensational slate of sport coverage, the Australian cricket team take on India at The Oval in London in the final of the ICC World Test Championships from 7.00pm tomorrow, only on Channel 7 and 7plus.

Cricketing great and former Australian team coach, Justin Langer, will join James Brayshaw and Ricky Ponting at the helm of Seven’s coverage, analysing the five days of play to decide which nation rules the world of cricket.

Seven’s coverage will include a 30-minute pre-game show each night, from 7.00pm AEST on 7mate and 7plus, where viewers will be greeted by many of Seven cricket’s favourite faces, including Matthew Hayden and Alison Mitchell; as well as Indian greats Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri. ICC TV will produce match coverage.

As the Aussies take a bat to the Indians, Thursday Night Footy also returns for Round 13 of the AFL season, kicking off with a huge clash between the Sydney Swans and St Kilda.

In celebration of Lance “Buddy” Franklin’s 350th AFL game, GWS Giants defender Phil Davis returns to the Seven’s commentary box to give viewers key insights into Buddy’s game, after playing on him multiple times throughout his own incredible career.

The blockbuster game will be followed by The Front Bar, when Mick Molloy, Sam Pang and Andy Maher will be joined by West Coast Eagles legend Karl Langdon and Big Freeze 9’s Bec Daniher.

On Friday morning, viewers will get their first taste of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ coming to Seven from 20 July, when The Trophy Tour swings by Sunrise (6am to 9am).

On Friday night, another cross-border AFL battle begins, when the Western Bulldogs take on Port Adelaide from 7.00pm AEST on Seven.

Then, from 12.00pm Saturday on Channel 7 (Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane) and 7two (Adelaide 11.30am and Perth 10am), Bruce McAvaney will lead Seven’s exclusive coverage of the Brisbane Racing Club’s Stradbroke Day at Eagle Farm (with crosses all day to meetings at Royal Randwick and Sandown).

On Saturday Night Footy, Seven’s commentary team travels to Perth when Fremantle take on Richmond at Optus Stadium, live and free on Channel 7 and 7mate from 6.30pm AEDT**.**

Then on Sunday night, AFL fans can strap in for one of football’s greatest rivalries, when Carlton meet Essendon at the MCG for the King’s Birthday Eve clash, live from 7.00pm AEST on Channel 7 and 7mate.

Next Monday marks a special day on the AFL calendar, when the game and its fans unite for Big Freeze 9, in support of Fight MND, with nine of Australia’s biggest names set to take the plunge for the Big Freeze on Seven.

For the past eight seasons, the Big Freeze has been a crowd-favourite before the Collingwood-Melbourne 3.00pm AEST blockbuster, with FightMND and AFL icon Neale Daniher sending a who’s who of the football, sport and media worlds down the slide into Australia’s most infamous ice bath.

Live from 2.00pm AEST on Channel 7, 7mate and 7plus, fans can watch as the celebrity sliders – including Aussie acting royalty Eric Bana, surfing great Mick Fanning, AFLW pioneer Tayla Harris and Seven’s own Abbey Gelmi – dress up and show up for this important cause.

Rounding out this week’s AFL matches on Seven are:

  • Hawthorn v Brisbane at the MCG, Saturday 1.30pm AEST on Channel 7 (Brisbane only)
  • Adelaide Crows v West Coast Eagles at Adelaide Oval, Saturday 4.00pm ACST on Channel 7 (Adelaide, Perth only)
  • North Melbourne v GWS Giants at Blundstone Stadium, Sunday 3.00pm AEST on 7mate (Sydney only)

Fans in NSW, Queensland, South Australia, and Western Australia can also watch Round 13 matches involving teams from their home states live and free on Channel 7.

Throw in new 7plus pop-up channels featuring the World Surf League and ONE Fight Night and it’s a sporting smorgasbord to sate any appetite.

There’s no better place to be than Seven, Your Home of Sport.

No problem for them. It’s almost better: means less waffle between races.

The more races the more viewers. Ratings for Derby Day and Golden Eagle Day for 7 will be big with the two marquee races on one network.

Last year viewers watched the Big Dance on 7 unaware the Melbourne Cup itself is on 10 on Cup Day. Having both the Big Dance and the Melbourne Cup for the first time will bring in huge numbers.

Seven strikes deal with Hockey Australia

Live and free on 7plus

The Seven Network is excited to announce a new landmark agreement with Hockey Australia to broadcast the best of the sport on Channel 7 and 7plus.

The initial two-year agreement will see all internationally sanctioned matches played by Australia’s iconic national teams, the Kookaburras and Hockeyroos, as well as every match of the Hockey One League 2023 and 2024 seasons shown live and free on 7plus.

Managing Director Seven Melbourne and Head of Network Sport, Lewis Martin, said:

“Channel 7 viewers have long been absorbed by the fast pace, skill and athleticism of elite hockey, most notably when our national teams go for gold at the Olympic and Commonwealth Games.

“This new partnership with Hockey Australia will allow audiences to follow our home-grown stars from the grassroots of the game to the major championships.”

Hockey Australia chief executive officer, David Pryles said the new broadcasting deal with such a highly regarded network is a game changer for the sport.

“This is an exciting and significant day for hockey in Australia, as this agreement with the Seven Network will provide greater visibility and awareness of our national teams and the Hockey One League.”

“Bringing all Kookaburras and Hockeyroos matches to 7plus will expose our world class teams and athletes to new audiences and make them accessible to more people more often, by being offered live and free.”

Mr Pryles added: ““The Seven Network has an exceptional record and reputation for broadcasting sport and we look forward to working closely with them over the next two years.”

7plus is the Seven Network’s free streaming service, connecting with over 13 million active, registered users and is distributed on 13 platforms, including all major Connected TVs, Web, Mobile (iOS & Android) and Casting (Chromecast & Airplay).

The first matches to be shown on 7plus under the new partnership will be the highly anticipated Oceania Cup in Whangārei, New Zealand from August 10-13, 2023.

The Oceania Cup sees the Kookaburras and Hockeyroos take on their New Zealand counterparts in a best-of-three series, with the winners automatically qualifying for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
