Super Bowl LV set to be a classic on Seven

The scene is set for one of the greatest Super Bowls of all time when the NFL’s most decorated quarterback, Tom Brady, leads the Tampa Bay Buccaneers into battle against the game’s biggest superstar Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs live and free on the Seven Network on Monday.

Brady is bidding to cap his fairy-tale first season at the Buccaneers with a record seventh Super Bowl victory. To do so, the 43-year-old will have to overcome Mahomes, who at 25 already has a Super Bowl win and MVP award to his name.

The generational rivals waged an epic overtime battle in the 2019 AFC Championship Game – when Brady led New England to a thrilling 37-31 triumph – and Super Bowl LV is poised to be just as thrilling.

Managing Director Seven Melbourne and Head of Network Sport, Lewis Martin, said: “The Super Bowl is another blockbuster part of Seven’s unbeatable live and free sport offering. This year, the occasion will go to another level altogether, with one of sport’s true legends, Tom Brady, part of one of the most anticipated quarterback showdowns of all-time.”

The biggest day in American sport will be broadcast live and free on Channel 7 from 10.00am AEDT on Monday and be live-streamed on 7mate. Seven US correspondent David Woiwod will be in Tampa to capture all the colour and excitement. CBS Sports’ Jim Nantz and Tony Romo will call the action from Raymond Jones Stadium. Three-time Grammy Award winner The Weeknd headlines this year’s much-anticipated halftime show.

Fans can catch all the pre-game news and analysis from 9.30am AEDT on Monday, when former Geelong AFL star and Arizona Cardinals punter Ben Graham joins Cam Luke for a special Super Bowl edition of Armchair Experts on 7mate and 7plus.

Autumn Racing Carnival heats up

Blue Diamond and Silver Slipper, live and free on Saturday

Victoria’s richest race for two-year-olds, the $1.5 million Blue Diamond Stakes, highlights a huge day of thoroughbred racing on the Seven Network this Saturday, including three Group 1 races at Caulfield and the coveted Silver Slipper Stakes at Rosehill Gardens.

Australia’s pre-eminent sports broadcaster Bruce McAvaney will again lead racing’s undisputed #1 commentary team, which also features Hamish McLachlan, Katelyn Mallyon, Henry Dwyer, Jason Richardson and Sky Racing’s Lizzie Jelfs.

Over the next nine Saturdays, racing fans will enjoy the very best racing from the Sydney and Melbourne Autumn Carnivals live and free on Seven and 7plus with the highlights including:

  • The $5 million All-Star Mile – the world’s richest 1600m race – at Moonee Valley on 13 March

  • The $3.5 million Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m), the world’s richest race for two-year-olds and one of five Group 1 races at Rosehill Gardens on 20 March

  • The Championships, which features eight Group 1 races across two action-packed Saturdays at Randwick on 3 and 10 April

Managing Director Seven Melbourne and Head of Network Sport, Lewis Martin, said: “This autumn, Seven will bring fans a spectacular feast of thoroughbred racing from Sydney and Melbourne, with the live and free coverage once again fronted by thoroughbred racing’s best commentary team led by the incomparable Bruce McAvaney.

“Across the next nine Saturdays, there’s no other place racing fans will want to be.”

In the Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m), Enthaar will start favourite after her dominant win in last month’s Chairman’s Stakes at Caulfield. But the unbeaten filly from the Ciaron Maher- David Eustace stable will face stiff opposition from Godolphin’s three runners – Ingratiating, Arcaded and the heavily backed Anamoe – along with the Grahame Begg-trained Dosh.

The two-year-olds will also take centre stage in the Silver Slipper Stakes (Group 2, 1100m) at Rosehill.

In what is shaping up as a wide-open contest, John Sargent-trained filly Four Moves Ahead will be vying for a Golden Slipper spot, but Godolphin stablemates Paulele and Zethus, and impressive Freedman Brothers colt Tiger of Malay, will be out to spoil her plans.

Saturday’s other highlights include Group 1 features the Futurity Stakes (1400m) and Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield, and the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) and Millie Fox Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill.

Moonee Valley – The All-Star Mile Rosehill Gardens – Ladies Day

Saturday 12.00pm AEDT on Channel 7, 7two and 7plus

The world’s richest 1600m race, the $5 million All-Star Mile, takes centre stage on a huge day of autumn racing on the Seven Network this Saturday, when fans will enjoy all the live and free action from Moonee Valley and Ladies Day at Rosehill Gardens.

The prestigious Golden Slipper Carnival kicks off at Rosehill on Saturday when the headline act will be the Group 1 Coolmore Classic, with Seven’s coverage starting at 12.00pm AEDT on Channel 7, 7two and 7plus.

Australia’s pre-eminent sports broadcaster Bruce McAvaney will again lead racing’s undisputed #1 commentary team on Saturday, along with Katelyn Mallyon, Michelle Payne, Jason Richardson and Sky Racing’s Lizzie Jelfs. Kate Waterhouse will also bring fans all the colour, fashion and celebrity interviews from Rosehill.

Star West Australian mare Arcadia Queen has returned to Moonee Valley to chase a second consecutive victory for trainers Grant and Alana Williams in the All-Star Mile. But perennial Group 1 contenders Probabeel, Russian Camelot and Behemoth also have their eyes firmly on the $2.25 million winner’s prize, while Queensland’s great hope The Harrovian also can’t be discounted.

In the $600,000 Coolmore Classic (1500m) at Rosehill, Chris Waller is chasing his first win in one of the few major races still to elude him, and the master trainer is well placed to do so with Millie Fox Stakes winner Subpoenaed and runner-up Madam Rouge.

However, boom filly Forbidden Love and Victorian mare Chaillot will be tough to beat after their respective wins in the Surround Stakes and Frances Tressady Stakes, while Canterbury Stakes runner-up Mizzy also has the form to claim her maiden Group 1 win.

On an action-packed day at Rosehill, the other highlights include the Group 3 Magic NightStakes and Pago Pago Stakes (both 1200m) – the last chances for two-year-olds to earn a spot in next weekend’s coveted Golden Slipper Stakes – while star mare Colette returns in the Sky High Stakes (Group 3, 2000m) after her gallant second to Verry Elleegant in last month’s Chipping Norton Stakes.

At Moonee Valley, Patrick Payne-trained gelding Cherry Tortoni looms as the horse to beat in the Group 2 Alister Clark Stakes (2040m) after he flashed home to finish second in the Australian Guineas.

Over the next six Saturdays, racing fans will enjoy the very best racing from the Sydney and Melbourne Autumn Carnivals live and free on Seven, with the highlights including:

• The $3.5 million Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m), the world’s richest race for two- year-olds and one of five Group 1 races at Rosehill Gardens on 20 March

• The Championships, which features eight Group 1 races across two action-packed Saturdays at Randwick on 3 and 10 April

Golden Slipper set to sparkle on Saturday

Racing legend Lee Freedman joins Seven’s #1 team

The world’s richest race for two-year-olds, the $3.5 million Golden Slipper Stakes, headlines a spectacular day of live and free racing on the Seven Network this Saturday, including five Group 1 races at Rosehill Gardens and the Listed Mornington Cup.

Golden Slipper Day at Rosehill is one of the Autumn Racing Carnival’s most prestigious days, and Seven will have all the action covered there and at Mornington from 12.00pm AEDT Saturday on Channel 7, 7two and 7plus.

Australia’s pre-eminent sports broadcaster Bruce McAvaney will again lead racing’s undisputed #1 commentary team on Saturday. In a massive coup for fans, he will be joined by one of the biggest names in thoroughbred racing, master trainer Lee Freedman, whose remarkable career achievements include four Golden Slipper victories.

Katelyn Mallyon, Michelle Payne, Jason Richardson and Sky Racing’s Lizzie Jelfs will also be part of Seven’s broadcast, while Kate Waterhouse will bring fans all the colour, fashion and celebrity interviews from Rosehill.

Freedman, who was inducted into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame in 2003, said: “I’m excited to be back in Australia and look forward to working alongside Bruce, Katelyn and the Seven Racing team on what is one of my favourite days of the year.”

The Golden Slipper Stakes (Group 1, 1200m) is Sydney’s most prestigious race and one of Australian racing’s four “majors”. This year’s edition is one of the most wide-open in memory, as Gai Waterhouse chases a record eighth victory with Swift Witness, the filly she co-trains with Adrian Bott.

Mick Price and Michael Kent junior-trained colt Profiteer is expected to start favourite, but there is no shortage of genuine contenders including Stay Inside, Blue Diamond winner Artorius, Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Shaquero, Godolphin stablemates Anamoe and Ingratiating, and the field’s only undefeated horse, Four Moves Ahead.

On a huge day at Rosehill, every event is a stakes race, including Saturday’s other Group 1 races: the George Ryder Stakes (1500m), Rosehill Guineas (2000m), Ranvet Stakes (2000m) and The Galaxy
(1100m).

Star mare Verry Elleegant will be out to turn the tables on Irish raider Addeybb in the Ranvet Stakes after the pair’s epic clash in the same race last year, while the battle between Randwick Guineas winner Lion’s Roar and runner-up Mo’unga in the Rosehill Guineas shapes as one of Saturday’s other highlights.

At Mornington, the Mornington Cup (2400m) will take centre stage, with the Listed Hareeba Stakes (1200m) among the other races not to be missed.

With the lure of a ballot exemption into the Caulfield Cup for the race winner, the 2021 Mornington Cup has attracted a quality field headed by Randwick City Stakes winner Mount Popa, Australian Cup placegetter Chapada, Nonconformist and Irish Flame.

Over the next five Saturdays, fans will enjoy the very best racing from the Sydney and Melbourne Autumn Carnivals live and free on Seven, including The Championships at Randwick on 3 and 10 April, which features eight Group 1 races across two action-packed Saturdays.

Golden Slipper to shine again on Seven

Autumn Racing Carnival heats up this Saturday

Saturday 12.00pm AEDT on Channel 7, 7two and 7plus

The world’s richest race for two-year-olds, the $3.5 million Golden Slipper Stakes, will get Sydney’s Autumn Racing Carnival restarted in style on a huge day of live and free racing on the Seven Network this Saturday, including five Group 1 races at Rosehill Gardens and Golden Mile Race Day at Bendigo.

Extreme rain last week forced Golden Slipper Day to be rescheduled to this Saturday, when fans can catch all the action from Rosehill and Bendigo at 12.00pm AEDT on Channel 7, 7two and 7plus.

Australia’s pre-eminent sports broadcaster Bruce McAvaney will again lead racing’s undisputed #1 commentary team on Saturday, and will be joined by master trainer Lee Freedman, whose remarkable career achievements include four Golden Slipper victories.

Katelyn Mallyon, Michelle Payne, Jason Richardson and Sky Racing’s Lizzie Jelfs will also be part of Seven’s broadcast, while Kate Waterhouse will bring fans all the colour, fashion and celebrity interviews from Rosehill.

The Golden Slipper Stakes (Group 1, 1200m) is Sydney’s most prestigious race and one of Australian racing’s four “majors”. This year’s edition remains one of the most wide-open in memory, as Gai Waterhouse chases a record eighth victory with Swift Witness, the filly she co-trains with Adrian Bott.

Mick Price and Michael Kent junior-trained colt Profiteer is favourite for the second week running, but a host of challengers are standing in his way led by Stay Inside, Blue Diamond winner Artorius, Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Shaquero, Godolphin stablemates Anamoe and Ingratiating, and the field’s only undefeated horse, Four Moves Ahead.

On a momentous day at Rosehill, every event is a stakes race, including Saturday’s other Group 1 races: the George Ryder Stakes (1500m), Rosehill Guineas (2000m), Ranvet Stakes (2000m) and The Galaxy (1100m).

In the Ranvet Stakes, all eyes will be on star mare Verry Elleegant and Irish raider Addeybbafter their epic clash in last year’s edition of the race. But the budding rivals won’t have things all their own way after Group 1 winners Sir Dragonet, Colette and Miami Bound this week joined the field.

Star of the Seas and Mizzy have also bolstered the field in the George Ryder Stakes as new acceptors. After runner-up finishes in the Canterbury Stakes and Coolmore Classic, Mizzy is seeking her first Group 1 win, but to do so will have to overcome seasoned Godolphin gelding Avilius and Chris Waller stablemates Funstar and Kolding.

At Bendigo, Will Clarken-trained gelding Ironclad will be chasing his fourth consecutive win when he lines up in the Listed Golden Mile (1600m), but he faces stiff opposition from Ajax Stakes place-getter Rock.

Other horses to look out for include Queensland favourite The Candy Man and one-time English Derby favourite English King, who are respectively making their Victorian and Australian debuts, while Rostropovich makes his long-awaited racetrack return.

Saturday’s other headline act is the Listed Bendigo Guineas (1400m), where Mick Price and Michael Kent junior stablemates Annavisto and Redeel are among the top fancies, along with Military Parade and Conceited.

Over the next month, fans will enjoy the very best racing from the Sydney and Melbourne Autumn Carnivals live and free on Seven, including The Championships at Randwick on 10 and 17 April, which features eight Group 1 races across two action-packed Saturdays.
