Anyone else thinking ishoptv could go the same way as openshop?
There’s not enough ad revenue in smaller markets to support 15-20 multi Channels
One can hope, waste of bandwidth.
To discourage their continuation, the Fed Govt should restart spectrum fees for those stations that rent out part of their spectrum to 3rd party operators such as 24/7 televangelist and home shopping channels.
no, I wouldn’t be surprised if the metro 7’s start carrying ishoptv soon!
Yep, I reckon they’ll end up carrying ishoptv, or create a new one for both metro and regional. As history indicates, the commercials always fall back to having at least one home shopping/paid-for service.
Seven and 10 appear to be off air in Newcastle due to a fibre cut between Mt Sugarloaf and West Wallsend exchange. Telstra claim their DVN network is redundant but it isn’t true because they only have one fibre up there.
To make things worse… 10 and Seven only just moved off DDA’s microwave network and onto Telstra’s non-redundant DVN fibre at Sugarloaf, they are probably regretting that now.
9NBN has survived because they use TPG Telecom’s microwave backbone to carry their pictures.
Not sure if this is old news but ishoptv is on LCN 67 this morning on SSW southwest WA. Was LCN 65.
What is new, logo for 7 Regional WA on Google TVs has finally been updated from the ond GWN7 logo.
The logo is reliant on an internet connection. Not sure which 3rd party supplies these logos.
I never checked on the day but pretty sure it moved to 67 on Nov 30 with the rest of the Prime network. I rescaned about 5 days after and noticed it had changed.
Could have renamed GWN7 while they were at it, but it seems like a bigger change is ‘coming soon’ so they’re probably holding off until then
Are they all still MPEG2? I can’t get that information out of my TV. I can see LCN 67 and 68 are AAC audio, though this may not be new either. They do look a fraction better picture quality.
Yep, no MPEG-4 on any network-operated sites. I believe there are some MPEG-4-only self-help sites though.
There’s a reason why SCA maintain access to an itinerant satellite slot while being distributed by DVN almost everywhere. Even the redundant and geographically diverse bits of the DVN can have simultaneous failures. Flooding in one state while someone gets a bit carried away with a backhoe in another can be all it takes.
And then, as appears to be the case with Mt Sugarloaf, there are sections with a single point of failure or near enough to it. There’s a major site in Queensland but I can’t recall which one, where the last leg is a microwave hop. Technically redundant but it’s two microwave links side-by-side so storms can cause enough rain fade to take the signal out for a few minutes.
And then there’s other sites which are extremely well protected such as Black Mountain Tower in Canberra with 3x fibre links (2 from Civic, 1 from Deakin) and a microwave link from Deakin.
I know Telstra have done a lot of work on removing many of the single points of failure, but they always have to more-or-less converge somewhere. It’s amazing how often that sort of fault is just metres from the transmitter site.
I’ve seen situations where telco claims to have divergent paths to service a location where it transpires that within the “last mile” the two cables are in the same trench but different conduits
Guess where we had issues…
The 65 LCN has been changed to “7Bravo” from “7bravo”. Has this happened in metro areas?
No, it looks to be the same, at least in Sydney.
No change to 7Bravo name in Brisbane or regional Queensland.
That must be very recent
last time I walked past it still said Prime7!
Yeah, I drove past early in the week (this week has been a blur so I have no idea what day it was) and it was still Prime7 then.
That’s an intense label scar, and lol at the old sign sitting near the bins.
