There was just an error on GWN7, the PRG played out too early:

Wondering if our TV guides will show 7HD instead of Prime7 HD come Monday.

tv week didnt change it for the 6th unlike when win changed their logo to 9 branding

They might do it on Monday. You got to remember tv week is part of nine entertainment, so it makes sense for them to do that, considering there’s an affiliation agreement between nine and win. I guess we will find out on Monday. Just 4 sleeps to go.

TV Week is no longer part of Nine Entertainment. It has been published by Bauer Media and now Are Media for the past five years or so.

You would think that someone at TV week should of seen all the articles online about the rebrand and updated the website. Only time will tell what happens.

TV Week doesn’t publish an online guide?

In any case, the production of TV listings in the magazine (as with many print publications) is outsourced to a third party. That party will likely have to wait to get instruction from the network on what it wants published. The magazine and/or TV guide supplier won’t make changes off their own bat.

I wonder how the EPG will be on the Gold Coast cause having both 7 Gold Coast will be confusing to some viewers unless they live on the southern end of the GC or in Tweed where quite a few people have a second antenna on their mast for Lismore channels.

It’s a pretty insignificant rebrand. It’s like when SCA dropped “Southern Cross” from Ten. I can’t remember anyone caring.

7 has been part of the Prime logo for 20 years - and only about a third of their audience even has local news. It’s a rebadge of a few selected promos and CSAs for most viewers.

Is it possible that Seven will drop one of its two channels on the Gold Coast (either Seven Brisbane or Prime7 Gold Coast) to avoid the confusion?

Legally not possible, government would first need to change the broadcast licence areas. SCA likely wouldn’t want to lose the Gold Coast, and it’s possible Seven and Nine don’t mind the current setup either.

They get two streams of ad revenue for the same area, plus in Nine’s case two different news bulletins (CG+metro and NBN GC).

…my thoughts exactly. A lot of rendundant conversation happening in regards to this ‘rebrand’ - it’s more of a ‘debrading’ of a very small amount of content.

Not really. It featured alongside the Prime logo only on-screen in the bottom corner during promos and on the PRG from 2002ish. So hardly at all. But it was permanently affixed to the logo from 2011

Are there a lot of confused people on GC? Surely these days people select their viewing based on the programme they want to watch, rather than the channel number or station name. I have to admit (though I don’t live in Oz), I very frequently have no idea what channel I’m watching if it’s a film or random repeat of Friends or whatever. And I’m a broadcast geek. Most markets have fringe bleed (Wollongong, Canberra, Central Coast) after all.

Splitting hairs a little, but sure. 20 years ago (when I worked there) it was 7 on Prime on promos and every return from break but not on the side of the building. So viewers saw the 7 mark at least 18 times an hour, for 20 years. Not to mention national news and sport branding. There has never been a Prime 2 or Prime Mate. I’m confident viewers know that Prime takes its content from 7 and won’t be confused that it’s a new and unfamiliar network. I guess anyone who went through the trauma of SC Tas changing to 7 Tas can shed more light on viewer confusion.

No but Seven Gold Coast News may appear on what was/is Prime7 Gold Coast on a delay. Nothing official on this though.

Cause it isn’t legally possible to drop either Brisbane or Northern NSW on the GC Seven could do this in the EPG
7 Brisbane (GC feed)
7HD Brisbane (GC feed)
7TWO Brisbane
7mate Brisbane
7mate HD Brisbane
7TWO and 7mate is literally just the main Brisbane feed it’s only the main station where they would need to mention to GC in the EPG cause of the GC news.

In this day and age, it doesn’t make sense to pipe in both Brisbane and NNSW to GC on essentially duplicate channels owned by the same network(s). My money is on an exemption in years to come in order to rationalise this anomaly. It would make more sense to spend money on content rather than transmitters. Local news options could be put on 7Two and Gem as has been done in Spencer Gulf and Alice Springs.

they can do it now, can’t they? e.g. NRN never opted to provide relays in the Central Coast sites because they were already served by TEN UHF translators from Sydney.

My understanding is that you can’t opt out once you’re in. And you can’t opt in if you miss the boat. You’re effectively leasing airwaves from the government. But my info is years old.

True fact: 1053 2CA turned down the option of FM repeaters in South Canberra that would have effectively given them FM stereo in more than half the city. They regretted it immediately; it was 20 years before the opportunity came around again.
