Seven News Spotlight

This is a really great production. Well put together. One of the better debates I’ve seen.

Really like the studio audience, though it seems a little cramped in. Would love to see TMS with a studio audience.

Not loving the pop music to the commercial breaks. Doesn’t really fit with the style of the show and/or the topic.

It’s been a very watchable show. I didn’t intend to stay up this late. But it’s been great.

Show was scheduled to finish at 10pm (printed) and 10.11pm (EPG). It’s 11pm and it just finished. It was well produced, and got me watching the show til this late. Well done to the Spotlight team.

More live specials please - when needed.

McCarthy was not a good choice to represent Yes.

I think they could have just kept it simple and made it more Q&A instead of the gimmicks.

At the start of the program they asked the viewers at home to log on and say whether they intended to vote yes or no, or were undecided. These numbers would then be compared with the another vote at the end of the program. I saw the final numbers, but did they show the numbers from the vote at the beginning of the program?

I think they’re attempting to have songs that fit the theme. Eg. They just mentioned “heart” and then played Padam to break.

I respectfully disagree. She did okay, not as good as the No side sadly. I like Ray but i feel like someone else from Yes should have done it. Noel Pearson maybe?

I enjoyed it. Well produced @blackbox

One thing I do want to know. Why do Seven never run a live watermark on their live programming. They used to do it, these days they don’t?

Thank you so much. It came off very wel

With spotlight we always supply the bug as it is not the normal watermark

Great show @blackbox - thoroughly enjoyed the different segments and pacing. Hopefully more LIVE shows in the future :crossed_fingers:

Did you feel having LIVE below the 7, would have been too cluttered?

Yeah. With the pulse and spotlight logo it didn’t really seem that it would work adding live.

I thought it was fantastic. Reminded me of when Sunday Night first started and they had the live element and audience questions etc.

Social media (mainly YES voters) slammed Liam Bartlett’s performance as ‘moderator’. Many complaints I saw were saying he went hard on the YES side and didn’t reflect the same on the NO side.

I thought it was weird that Lydia Thorpe on but did not let her speak on the progressive No side.

My main question was not addressed, which is: What is the No side’s alternatives? So much talk about the issues indigenous communities currently face. Unless there are alternatives, that is a repudiation of the status quo, and a case for Yes. Liam should have interrogated that.

I’m yet to watch it, but that is my hesitation. Michael is more impartial and seems like the more obvious choice.

I gave each reporter a specific role because I wanted this to be a team effort.

I was happy with the choices I made.

Was a fan of the format. Usher suits himself as the driver of a show. Has made Spotlight his own
