I remember there was major backlash when she was replaced as the weather presenter on the Sydney bulletin by David Brown while being on maternity leave at the time.
This meant Brown would commute from Melbourne to Sydney for the week; border restrictions in November 2020 would eventually result in him stepping down and retiring from television.

A welcome return, but surely they have bigger plans for her than that? Potentially replacing Mike on weekends in the long run?

Smithson hasn’t done the afternoon news since they axed the local morning news at the start of last year - it’s usually been either Elspeth or Gertie, with Casey Trealor and Amelia Mulcahy recently filling in for Elspeth’s days.
Doubt they will put her into the weekend chair - more likely they will go with Elspeth when the time comes.

Surely they will pair her with Mike Smithson for a period of time for a transition. I can’t believe Mike is nearly 70.
