According to Media Diary in The Australian, questions are being raised in Brisbane’s newsroom about the sports presenting position as Seven continues to sit at second place in the ratings.
There are concerns that Steve Titmus doesn’t have the sporting credentials and is best known for being the father of Olympic swimmer Ariarne Titmus, and that the Queensland market needs someone with rugby league connections presenting sport.
Nonsense. The sports reader on the leading bulletin over on Nine isn’t a rugby league player and they’re confidently winning the ratings.

Have 7 seen that 10 has improved YOY, The Chase is well past expiry date, and Nine has not rushed to replace their longtime anchor Lofthouse.

So the axing of Seven News Gold Coast, playing musical chairs with their female weeknight newsreaders, insistence of having large amounts of white/dead space in their studio and the changing face of their News Directors over the last 2 years has nothing to do with the fact they’re in second place…

That’s what happens when 10 reintroduces a local bulletin and poaches an ex-Seven newsreader to front it. This Tuesday marks exactly a year since Brisbane got back its local bulletin, after nearly four years of the bulletin being merged with Sydney’s (which at the time I saw as being a temporary measure during the pandemic).

Josh Money has worked for 7 News since December 2023. He previously worked for Nine Adelaide and Fox Sports News and 10 News.

Installing Steve Titmus was probably one of the better decisions made in that period. He’s a solid presenter and much of regional Queensland knows him from his time filling in for Rob Brough on 7Q bulletins. 7 spent so much time pumping up Sarah Greenhalgh, they forgot to promote Steve and his background.
