I wish they would stop using that out of date backdrop!! That background is more than 12 months old. The building at the centre of that image which is “under construction” is well and truly complete!!

I’d love it if they went back to the Yarra River shot for the 4pm bulletin and then Federation Square/Flinders Street for the 6pm bulletin. They were much better looking.

But another thing I can’t understand. The entire broadcast was based around the weather, doesn’t it just make sense to be using a live backdrop which reflects the conditions outside?

They did the same at 4pm yesterday. It was teeming with rain and we still had the same shot used, which is at least 12 months old.

In fact I think they’ve been using that same shot all week.

I think they use it due to the bad weather. It’s a fall back backdrop.

Seven Melbourne now have a live backdrop of Melbourne for the Afternoon News. It’s clear that they go to a pre recorded backdrop (taped from last year) depending on bad weather.

Cassie Zervos and cameraman Lachie Shine were among guests evacuated from Mantra Hotel in Traralgon in Gippsland today, after the underground carpark was flooded. They were in the town today to report on the floods.

*He finally wins a ratings year against Peter Overton (doubtful).

OR

*When Seven finally admits that Fergo isn’t working and brings in a new Sydney 6pm newsreader.

My two cents in the discussion:

• I think Mark Ferguson is a better newsreader than Peter Overton.
• Seven News Sydney are more dominant than Ten News Sydney and ABC News Sydney at least
• The mammoth ratings for Hot Seat in Sydney play a key factor in the 6pm ratings, giving Nine a big lead-in
• To a lesser extent, Nine has the rights to the NRL which helps them
