He has been a sports reporter in the past before, though. I believe he is the son (or nephew) of former Seven News sports presenter Jim Wilson?

Uhh ok.

Tom is Rebecca Wilson’s son.

Yes, Tom has been on sport quite a few times now. Mostly during the day time bulletins I think.

Oh, I see. I wasn’t aware that Tom Sacre has presented the Sports segment during the day before.

Not sure if tonight was his first for the 6pm news though. But if he has done so before, it’s not all that often.

I believe he had done it at least once before in 2022:

Her husband is also part of 7’s coverage and if memory serves her family were also owners or trainers of a melbourne cup winner a few years back.

Great tribute and footage from over the years.
But the song sounds like a jingle from the 80s era when they began … or is that the point? Lol

Seven took out a full page ad in the sports section of Sunday Herald Sun today.

That is what I was going for. Nothing beats a good 80s/90s jingle and since most of the footage is from that era that is what I went with. I didn’t want 3 minutes of the news theme or some generic song so I went down this path instead.

Initially I wanted to use “Watch the news with us, each night on Seven” which they used in Rick and Sue’s early days but I have always preferred “Nobody Knows News Like Seven”. I mean Rick and Sue definitely fit the description of “Unstoppable” but… no thanks.

Hopefully TVW goes all out for them on the actual anniversary and produces something better. STW are slowly closing the gap but Rick and Sue are still well ahead.

It has been discussed before that they might choose to give it up once they reached 40 years but I’m hoping they keep going for a while longer. They have a solid replacement team in Tim and Angela (assuming that is the plan) but Rick and Sue could easily keep going.

Either way 40 years is very impressive and their record is unlikely to be beaten. Congrats to them.

Should send it in to 7. They might put it on air. It’s very good.

I guess we’re assuming Ann will continue to present the Noon News?

Likely IMO, given she said she would be back this year, although they have been doing split presenters (i.e. one on morning and a different one on Sydney 4pm) a few times when Ann has been away in recent months, so I wouldn’t be surprised if someone else ends up doing 12pm, and Ann does 4pm for Sydney (or Ann does 12pm, and someone dose 4pm).

Other than Ann, the only other name I can think off who might get the gig would be Hugh Whitfied.
