Momentum started building one the 2023 AFL season finished.
Don’t forget the significant ethnic Sri Lankan community in Melbourne, a lot of whom are professionaly employed. Wouldn’t surprise me if 7 is looking to attract this audience.
As others have said, a good get by 7, someone known nationally who can be used both locally & nationally, which seems to fit in the 7’s plans going forward.
That’s what I thought when I read the Herald Sun article about Carvalho’s hire and these comments that she made or at least signed off on (emphasis added):
“I think across the board at Seven they are looking to do more news, not less news,” she said.
“Critical to that is having those skills to be able to host rolling coverage and given that is where all of my recent experience lies, in hosting national rolling news, I think I bring those critical skills.
“I am beyond encouraged by the direction that Anthony on a national basis and Chris Salter in Melbourne are taking the Melbourne newsroom.”
News 24 has some good talent that 7 could probably do with.
I think move Mitchell to weekends and have Amor/Bec during the week.
Agreed. If they were smart they could start their own news channel. 7 24. I’ll take my fee now, thank you!
Wonder if 7 Brisbane is considering a double header?
Max with Katrina Mon- Wed and Samantha Thurs-Fri.
They could all share 4pm duties, and Sam do weekends solo.
Maybe they’re filming a promo for after the Olympics? Maybe that’s why we haven’t seen a new end board yet?
Just speculatiing… ???
Isn’t she going to be VIC based?
You are mistaking Katrina for Karina.
lol oops.
That wouldn’t have happened if the motion to separate the threads into cities had passed a few months ago.
I dont think you would split the presenter for 6pm… i do agree it should be Katrina & Max, but that should be M-F.
Sam should stay on weekends and could do 3 weekday 4pm’s. Then get someone else on the other 2… Jac Robson, Steve or Amanda, or Max or Katrina
Didn’t think Katrina wanted to do 5 days…
No, she didn’t want to do weekends.
She works 5 days now, 3 days on 4pm and then you’ll see her report on thursday and friday.
She does Monday - Friday now. Reports the two days she’s off air.
Why couldn’t Katrina do 6pm M-F and continue to do 4pm a couple of days a week (Sam doing 4pm the other 3 days + weekend 6pm)?
I wouldn’t be installing a new presenter next to Max until at least the new year. Wounds are still fresh regarding Sharyn and would be somewhat disrespectful to replace her so quickly.
I wonder if Sharyn was let go to send a message to other presenters (eg Mark Ferguson) to accept the contract that is on offer, as no one is indispensable.
It looks like it will backfire in the ratings for QLD but maybe achieve the outcome in other negotiations?
Seems strange that they are hiring a new presenter in Melbourne to fill-in, when they already have Blake
Johnson, when costs are such a focus.
Maybe there will be still investment in new presenters just much lower salaries!
Paul Burt gave his assessment on Seven’s changes, in The Australian’s Media Diary column:
“I really don’t understand it, why people are being treated this way,” Burt told Diary.
“It was a shock, I was told to come in and have a meeting which I did and I was told my contract was not being renewed.
“It was rather embarrassing for my wife and children. They found out before I could even tell them. Obviously things get leaked.
“Some of the decisions made lately are quite harsh. I’ve lost a lot of friends who have been made redundant or got the sack.”
Absolutely. The Karina hire is Melbourne is just ridiculous and unnecessary. Outside of Sydney, Melbourne have the most presenters. Utterly offensive to the rest of the Seven employees nationwide who’ve been let go. They must know that right?
Also the audience that watches Seven don’t watch ABC often enough to recognise her - likewise the audience that recognises Karina from ABC won’t watch Seven.
