Charlotte Goodlet presenting Perths 4pm news .
Looks like it’s just not a contract renewal then.
With Redundancies at Seven, They have to look at the Salaries of their News Presenters.
Having double headers on weekends can’t be very economical…
It depends on what other duties they do. If they also assist with off air production as well then they may not be employing additional people by having 2 presenters.
I’m not big on it myself, but there’s no denying they’re keeping up to date with the crowd now.
According to the Herald Sun, news bosses are looking at double figure sackings in its Melbourne newsroom and production team, along with asking presenters to take salary cuts. Peter Mitchell is one of those whose contract is under the spotlight and up for a salary haircut at best.
If the report is true, then a lot of familiar faces will disappear from 7News Melbourne over the coming weeks. And there will be fewer places they can find new work, given the job cuts at Nine and News Corp in the same period.
Considering the recent ratings tumble a refresh of the on-air talent might be good.
People are turning away from relying on a 6PM broadcast anyway, so doubt personalities would keep people choosing to watch. People expect news to be instant and choose the stories they want to watch, not fluff pieces or stories aligned with a network purpose i.e. State of origin in the first 10 mins of broadcast etc.
Honestly, Paul Burt would be a good pick up for 10 News Brisbane. If they choose to add a localised OB weather segment.
It’s still a little bizarre, 2024 so far, given 2022 and even more so 2023’s ratings turn-around (which began years prior anyway) and wins for HSV.
I’d thought maybe Peter Hitchener, at least weeknights or coming out of COVID and some major news events, was the reason, seeing people switch from Nine to Seven. And Tom and Alicia have themselves been a shining light, brining viewers back to GTV.
But I could be completely misreading all that.
I would suggest this is long overdue for some names, including Peter Mitchell. They need to move beyond him.
Move Mike Amor to weeknights and keep Bec Maddern on weekends.
He and Kendall Gilding would be potential recruits for TVQ if/when they decide to reinstate a local bulletin. I think it’s more a matter of when, not if, though I do know that costs is preventing it from happening in the short term.
Other way around I think.
Get rid of Grandpa Watson while they’re at it.
At the end of GC news - “See you next week”.
Also noted that again he delivered the fishing and coast reports - so looks like those presenter might be gone.
Just a reminder the original article announcing Paul Burt’s departure did say it would be at the end of his contract. That could be months away. Do we need to follow and track his appearances each night?
Given that we are still tracking Gemma Acton’s appearances now, I’d say it’s only fair.
