Personally, I don’t have a problem with Seven using Tony Auden to present the weather on Sydney’s 4pm news. He’s a meteorologist and a decent presenter from what I’ve seen, so no complaints on this end.
I’d bet that 99% of viewers in Sydney wouldn’t know or care that Tony Auden is the weather presenter of Seven News Queensland!
We have a problem then. He studied for his degree at Monash University in Victoria so he may not even be qualified to forecast weather in Queensland. If only those pesky state borders didn’t impede his ability to do the job he studied so hard for…
Jane Bunn appears many times on Sydney screens as a fill-in weather presenter on TDE and the 4pm news a few years ago and she’s from Melbourne. Next speculation?
He’s by no means solely a ‘fluff’ reporter, but he certainly has a knack for a more lighthearted, often comedic approach to his stories. Highlight of the bulletin always.
From what I’ve seen, Phil Wilmington of Nine News Queensland is another name to add to the list of quirky local fluff/puff piece correspondents.
Since the other top rating local news bulletins in metro markets seem to have them, I wonder if Seven Perth has their own fluff/puff piece correspondent?
I agree. I especially love this weather forecast from 2011.
Regarding Perth, I haven’t seen the bulletin since 2013 (when I moved from Perth to Adelaide, which probably explains why I like Seven), but I don’t think there’s a fluff-piece correspondent there. Maybe Geof Parry and his signature sign off (Geof Parry, Ssssssssssssseven News) make him a bit more light-hearted, but other than that I think Perth has a rather serious approach to news compared to let’s say Sydney.
Surprisingly not in Seven News, but if there are those type of stories its during Today Tonight reported by Mark Gibson… Don’t really watch TT but i’m sure they all report on fluff.
