According to Katrina Blowers’ Instagram story, Amanda Abate is taking over from Rod, Monday to Friday.
Rule the Coast? Isn’t that a bit dramatic considering how competitive 9 and 7 are on the GC?
Maybe but Nine’s product is more superior in reporting, overall quality and the bonus of incumbency (Bulletin is over 25 years old now). The ratings also reflect this.
Nine’s Veteran Gold Coast Reporter Petrina Zapphir has been around for decades at NRTV (now WIN), Ten and Nine. Seven don’t really have a Reporter like that and Rod Young was a Newsreader.
Seven started off well in 2016 even offering weekend bulletins which was a big point of difference. Those were dropped presumably for budgetary restrictions and the bulletin seems to have been suffering for those more as each year goes by. With fewer and more inexperienced team in the field, fewer crosses and less exclusive content. I highlighted a case recently where Nine opened with major breaking news that only got a mention late in Seven’s bulletin.
Yes I actually watched Seven’s Gold Coast weekend bulletins. That was a game changer in Australian television at the time.
I think some of the problem is Neil Warren is controlling Gold Coast News decisions from Brisbane while Nine have Rod Power actually based on the Gold Coast just solely looking after the local bulletin while Amanda Patterson only looks after Brisbane.
19/7/2021 Ben Davis is presenting sport on the Morning News.
Liz Cantor brought up Rod’s retirement at the end of weather tonight followed by an announcement by Rod himself.
Was he a boxer/rugby player?
Does anyone know if the Morning News aired today and presented by whom? Wasn’t aired in Melbourne due to a coronavirus press conference, there was also a separate one in Sydney, so was curious if neither took it if it actually went to air.
Yes Morning News aired in Sydney off the back of Gladys’ presser.
So looks like Morning News airs daily at 11:30am in Sydney, conveniently, when the NSW Premier has mostly finished and its just questions by journalists. Assume Nine do the same.
But more messy in Melbourne, as Victorian Premier’s press conference doesn’t seem to have a set time (anywhere between 11am and 12pm) and in the case of today started about 11:20am and went until 12:15pm.
Seven News’ Victorian political reporter Sharnelle Vella has arrived in Tokyo to report on the Olympics.
20/7/2021 Angie Asimus is presenting the Morning News.
With Mel McLaughlin presenting sport live from Tokyo.
No doubt she’ll be used on the desk one day. Perhaps over summer?
Even during ratings period we’ve had Joel Dry and Marlina Whop present the 4pm news; so I don’t think it will be long.
7 Brisbane have had reporters at the desk a bit of late. I’ve seen a few come in to “follow up” stories
I hope they use Sam over Joel completely. I really liked Marlina’s reading stints, but unfortunately the networks usually prefer not to take their political reporters off the road. So, I’d say Sam will be the primary 4pm sub. Although Amanda is back on the GC now…
It’s to imitate 9. I think it’d look better to have the reporter at the weather plasma for studio stories.
