Interesting that she noted “Seven were wanting to take things in a different direction” or something. She said mutual decision and chose not to renew.
But I reckon she was probably let go. Ever since Seven lost the Olympics, there wasn’t a lot left for her to do and she’d already been absent from weekends a lot, albeit yet two maternity leaves and health issues. And she wasn’t getting the plum weekday gig anytime soon given that just went to Bec Maddern (not sure the two were really friends either). I even thought that send off last year looked more like a farewell and wondered then.
She should be good at the ABC though, wouldn’t be surprised to see her pop up on Breakfast.

“Hi team, just letting you all know I’ve finished up today after being told my contract isn’t being renewed,” read an email sent by Spurway on Monday to her Seven newsroom colleagues after being abruptly told her time was up and her role was now redundant.
“Apologies I’m not able to see everyone in person but thank you for your help and guidance over the past four years.
“I wish you all the best in your travels at Seven, Laura.”
Herald Sun reports Laura Spurway has left 7 Melbourne.

It’s unfortunate for Laura but Seven absolutely made the right decision in pursuing Xander McGuire. Xander has broken a number of big stories in a short time at Nine, and with no disrespect to Laura, if I had to choose between the two of them - I’m taking Xander.
