He’s better off hosting shows like he did on the ABC.
As a straight news/ sports reader he’s not really that good.
His personality is better off on a more relaxed format.

Yep Rod lives on the Gold Coast - however Bruce Paige doesn’t - he was travelling from Brisbane to the GC

Rod and Bruce used to go head-to-head in the Brisbane market between 2002-09; while Nine was the market-leader at the time, it took some time before Seven overtook them. Their “rivalry” (if I can say that) then continued on the Gold Coast market from 2016 until Young’s retirement in 2021.
After Bruce stepped down from the Nine newsdesk in 2009, we saw two ex-ABC newsreaders (Rod and his successor at ABQ, Andrew Lofthouse) go head-to-head until 2012, with Young getting the better of Lofthouse, but the latter and Melissa Downes starting to gain some traction at QTQ.
