According to The Australian, sources report that Robert Ovadia is so upset by the accusations against him, that he plans to leave journalism (and the media industry) for good.
The Australian’s report also notes that no complaints were ever lodged for the emails Ovadia was investigated for sending. The most recently reported email was understood by both men to be a lighthearted joke.

That doesn’t mean that they’re not inappropriate
If it’s simply sent and seen between just the two people and both people don’t have an issue with it then what’s the problem?
I’ve not liked Ovadia for a while now but I think Seven might be in trouble here.
The old light hearted joke. Seen that play out a million times. Once the Employee Relations department gets hold of it, it’s not so much a joke.
Tom Morris pulled a similar card after his little incident, 9 still gave him a job though.
It’s been alleged it was sent between the two men about a female colleague.
Certainly breaches many workplaces code of conduct.
I’d be mindful using work emails and platforms for sharing of jokes etc, anything that goes into sexual harassment territory, it never ends well. Even if the people involved don’t care.
I think you’re confusing two different incidents.
The one about the colleague was said to be not sexual in content.
Yeah it was dumb and I certainly wouldn’t use my work email like that but it didn’t hurt anyone. I really do think he has a case of unfair dismissal here. Providing more doesn’t come out of course.
I don’t think 7 are willing to have much patience with anyone testing the waters with employee relations. Considering recent events with others, it seems anyone causing problems will likely be removed quickly. They won’t want the rolling issues as seen in other cases. RO will be long forgotten in a month.
Doesn’t have to be sexual to be inappropriate.
Seven clearly thought grounds for dismissal, whether that proves to be the right call or not is another issue.
I didn’t say it did. I’m just saying I think it was reported to be two different scenarios.
Sorry, hadn’t heard that there is more than one allegation against him:
Dumped Channel 7 reporter Robert Ovadia done with journalism
I’m struggling to see how the out-of-context emailing of a photo of a flaccid penis is appropriate on any level?
Because it’s harmless. Inappropriate, yes, of course. Who did it hurt? It was sent between two consenting adults in which the recipient had said they weren’t upset or offended.
Slap their wrists and move on.
HR departments are strange beasts. I’ve seen people sacked over minor things, and I’ve seen people with dozens of allegations including substantiated sexual harassment claims, given warnings. Can depend on what’s happening around the traps also at the time. In this case, and industry, certainly has been an increase in employee issues within the public arena, in recent times, they won’t want this behaviour to continue on and on while they try to prove to everyone that they are fixing the issues. Also gives management a chance to send a stern warning to the rest if the troops- anyone misbehaves, no matter how minor, it’s farewell.
