Agreed Tim Lester is quite capable, but I’m fully supportive of business operating covid normal. Mark Riley would have normally covered this - if he has the proper exemptions to travel for work then so be it - he should be there.
Wow, interesting to hear that international travel has been seemingly easy enough for you and others.
Plenty of Aussies in other places have been stranded since this began and even more recently as they desire to come home or are naturally due to come home as I think you mentioned with visas expiring and other requirements such as health, family etc.
I left Australia before the pandemic really started, and chose to stay where I was because that was the best option for me at the time - but getting back to Australia was not easy so I decided to return via my birthplace in NZ and I seemingly got stuck there with the snap lockdown and Australia basically locking me and every other Aussie there out with no assistance. I’m very lucky to have made it back recently, but that is not the case for many Aussies stranded there and vice versa with Kiwis in Australia.
It’s easy to assume that it’s all smooth sailing for international travel when everyone has such varied and unique circumstances, I really don’t think there’s a one size fits all approach to looking at this.
I don’t get how it’s a bad look, journalists travel with the Prime Minister all the time for these types of trips. He isn’t there for a holiday, he is there for work so I feel as though this is a complete overreaction.
Wrong place for the discussion, but was your difficulty getting back to Australia something to do with your birthplace being NZ?
Nope, availability of flights and quarantine places being the main reasons.
Have been usually resident in Australia most my life, so am treated like an Australian Citizen when it comes to borders and the like.
Interesting. That’s not been my or anyone I knows experience. That is going to and from the UK so availability of flights is increased. I’ve been back and forth once in economy with Singapore Airlines and flight went ahead as scheduled.
Katie brown is returning to 7 News Queensland
Tuesday:
Angela Cox is presenting the Morning News again today, and Matt Carmichael is back presenting Tuesday sport after being released from hotel quarantine last week.
Angie Asimus is presenting the Afternoon News in Sydney.
Wednesday and Thursday:
Angie Asimus is presenting the Morning News, and Afternoon News in Sydney.
Jacqueline Felgate presented sport in Melbourne this evening.
Does anyone know if Mitch Cleary has started with Seven News yet?
Apologies for the double post…
Shouldn’t Mark Riley be in hotel quarantine after his trip to the United States? Or did he get an exemption?
You can see him on the Sunrise Hot Topics segment this morning, presumably from Seven’s Canberra Bureau.
Doesn’t look like the Parliament House studio to me (the backdrop fills the whole frame for starters, no black lines around the edges).
He may be quarantining at home given multiple states are actively trialing that. Very easy to set up a camera, TV screen and a few lights in a spare room (Alex Hart reported from home for a few weeks earlier this year while isolating as a close contact).
Blake Johnson presenting the Afternoon News in Melbourne today.
Also tonight (Thursday).
She presented sport from Wednesday to Friday this week while Tim Watson took a mini break from his radio and TV commitments.
I’ve heard that the journalists that travelled to New York with the PM were allowed to skip hotel quarantine and are instead isolating at their homes. Could he have been crossing from his home with a green screen background?
Almost certainly the case
I know there’s been a lot of departures in Melbourne, but first in Adelaide for a while?
Around the time Mike joined the desk, I was going to ask what happened to Mark Mooney. Have you seen him recently?
