Seven News Presenters and Reporters (2015-Sept 2020)

It’s great that Seven News Melbourne has remained fairly consistent over the years (in fact, any news service in Melbourne) with presenters.

Peter Mitchell & Jennifer Keyte around 15+ years.

Tim Watson (former Essendon champion - retired for media, made a come-back to footy & retired to media again) goes back to the 1990s.

David Brown also goes back to the 1990’s (although currently in Sydney).

Michael Felgate goes back to around 2003, Nick Etchells around 2005.

Except for the time he was at A Current Affair.

Seven is probably no more or less consistent than ABC, Nine or Ten over the last 20 years. Ian Henderson dates back to the 1990s at ABC. Peter Hitchener has been main anchor at Nine for 18 years but has been at Nine since 1973. Ten had Mal Walden for 20 years until his retirement but replaced him with Stephen Quartermain who’s been there since the 1980s. So they all have a fairly consistent line-up as far as main news anchors go.

Seven has also had changes to weather presenters with David Brown going to Giaan Rooney and Jane Bunn, with Rob Gell and Jo Silvagni at times as well.

Jennifer Keyte left Seven in 1995 and didn’t return until about 2003 after some time at Nine.

Rob and Chris won for 7’s coverage of the murder of NSW Police employee Curtis Cheng in Parramatta - the same story won a Logie earlier this year. Rob’s acceptance speech at the Logies was excellent.

Ah yes, it was. I recall that speech.

I think Chris Reason was disrespectful by reporting while the national anthem was being played at the medal ceremony of women’s keirin cycling race at the Rio Olympics. Couldn’t he have waited until the formalities had finished?

No, then you’d just have people packing up.

Melissa Doyle has been dumped again

But, Doyle is ‘“very happy’’ with the move’ to full-time at Sunday Night, the story says. !!

I’ve always found Michael Usher a bit stiff, similar in style to Jim Waley (who replaced Hendo, Mark Ferguson wasn’t Hendo’s replacement as the article states).

If seven were smart, they would “Dump” her to hosting weeknights! But no they seem to love fergo :frowning:

Seven are great at treating their amazing talent like nothing!

But what are you talking about?! Fergo is excellent talent at Seven :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

Why do they present Sun-Thur in Sydney? Whats the issue with separating weekdays and weekends like everyone else?

What the fuck, Seven.

I think this Seven News Investigates was actually just an internal thing, investigating how to add below-par presenters to a semi-credible news service! :upside_down_face:

Next we’ll be seeing reports that Karl Stefanovic has jumped ship to host Sunday Night!

To be fair, Michael Usher isn’t THAT bad, but Mel is laps ahead.

Gee, I was going to say ‘hope Mel doesn’t defect to anther network’, but honestly I don’t care, Seven have fucked her around a lot, so just as long as she’s on TV, I wish her all the best!

I am starting to understand why Chris walked away.

Because of the clash with Sunday Night.

Mel has been treated very badly by Seven in recent years and unfortunately she is not the first nor will she be the last.
With this news it’s got me thinking her time at Seven could end when her current contract expires with Michael taking over Sunday Night as well.(l know l’m thinking to far ahead)
She welcomed Michael to Seven family on twitter the other day! She is a classy and talented lady who has deserved better from the network.

Melissa Doyle has been dumped again [for Michael Usher]
You have got to be joking. How dumb are Seven? Obviously they are going to eventually make Musher the weeknight anchor but when that happens, they will need someone on the weekend?! Quickly calculating, Seven News Sydney will be the only current bulletin ( out ABC, 7, 9 and 10) not to have female anchor either during the week or on the weekend (not a good move) anywhere in Australia’s capitals.

I’ve always found Michael Usher a bit stiff
I agree, but he is the only capable person at Seven right now to possibly take Seven News Sydney back to number 1. Personally, I would have preferred if they skipped Melissa Doyle (left her on Fri & Sat) and dump Fergo immediately for Usher.

Why do they present Sun-Thur in Sydney?
One of the main reasons is because of ratings. Sunday nights have always been considered one of the most valuable and biggest performing nights so that is why Nine News Sydney do it. Other cities have (probably could), try it but it works in Sydney and that is how it is going stay for a long time. Seven News Sydney do because Nine did.

That was due to Chris Bath, now Doyle, hosting Sunday Night and reading the weekend news. They couldn’t do both on Sunday night.

They’ve bumped the wrong person. I’m not much of a Doyle fan but she’s a far better newsreader than Ferguson who appears to be a protected species. Perhaps Seven is testing the waters with Usher before they hand him the weeknight gig.
